    Dealers/salesmen

The recent sale of 1 of my properties has resulted in a nice bit of cash for me to spend on a car. Budget of between £25-30k. So I pop into Audi to have a look. I realise I'm unsure of what exactly I want(a4 saloon or avant, or maybe a new A6 saloon), and I mentioned this when I walked in hoping the salesman might help me out, but he couldn't have made it clearer that he thought I was wasting his time and I wasn't worth him putting any effort into. I've never felt the love from any Audi dealership in my 12 years of ownership, so final nail in the coffin. Audi have lost me as a customer.

Don't lose faith in the brand because the sales people are rubbish mate. Get yourself a beautiful second hand rs4 and use the change for a detail or some nice mods. We're all here cos we love the car, not the people that sell them.

Mate of mine asked a dealership for a certain spec (white A4) and in the meantime had a look at one in another town at a general car sales and the owner said twelve grand for it,he went home to think about it and Audi dealer rang him saying he can get one for fifteen but the spec was surprisingly very similar to the one he'd looked at.
He went back to the general car sales and told him about the Audi offer, the bloke said they had offered him eleven for it !!
I'll never use that dealership again.

Mmm, went into BMW today and got the same treatment when I was looking at the 5 series.
I was starting to think it was me, but popped into Merc for a browse(my wife has an A-class), WOW. Now they now how to treat a customer! I felt like royalty. I don't think I'm old enough for a Merc yet, but they couldn't do enough for me, really tempted by a nearly new c-class now, or maybe an e-class.

Something i didnt experience when i got my A3. The salesman was actually pretty good especially as i was dressed in a scruffy pair of jeans and old tshirt, expected to get ignored as im only 22 and look younger. Couldnt do enough for me, food and drinks offered as well. Treated me like id just thrust 200K in their face.

Leeds Audi, exactly the same, I knew exactly what I wanted, had the cash waiting, and the salesman couldn't be arsed giving me the time of day. I happily gave Oxford my cash via drivethedeal and got a substantial discount in the process, winner. The icing on the cake was the snivveling salesman calling me further down the line asking if I was still in the market. That was a fun phone call.

Funnily enough alot of the dealerships here wont give you the time of day unless you have the cash or look to have it. Some wont even let you test drive so you can decide on an engine! Puts me off buying new here.

I'm still really keen on a 520d msport. It gets rave reviews, just wish there was a dealer who was interested in selling one to me.

To be honest, I have found the same in a lot of "upmarket" car dealerships.

I was left waiting 15 minutes by a dealer with a friend of mine whilst he finished faffing about organising magazines - my friend was after a 320d - the salesman looked gutted when he turned round and saw us drive away in an R32 - he may have had a sale there!

I was even arrogantly spoken to by the local parts dept up until I had to show him round ETKA - he soon started listening.

I haven't had that sort of problem with most dealerships but never fail to be surprised by the complete lack of knowledge most of them have with regards to the cars. On a recent test drive session I seemed to be the one briefing the salesman on the car specs as opposed to the other way around!

This does my head in! Whilst taking the missus out to testdrive a mk5 Golf(which we didn't buy) a few years back, the saleswoman kept reminding me the 10 spoke 15" OEM alloys with tyres was a £900 option on the car we was testing. STFU woman, I'd be slapping on a set of 18s on that's going to cost me less!!

I don't blame you... I went a few months ago to consider buying a second a3... I was in shirt and trousers... the guy before me was in jeans and there to get parts.. they made him wait and wait... and didn't really care what he was after... I had nightmare experiences with VW and vowed never to go there again but I feel this is de ja vous... I'm happy with the brand but the customer service sucks... in fact I avoid the stealer whenever I can.. lucky enough that my garage at the moment order oem parts in so it saves me having to get these.. I used to have to get the parts for the garage and paid labour only of course...

Even if there has been one good soul at stealership.. that person is often relocated to a different stealer in the same chain and they have rules stating that they cannot continue cases etc. I had one guy looking into a fault for me last year... fantastic support... prompt emails.. called back when he said he would.. kept me updated.. and treated me VIP.. then he moved to a different branch.. and I tried to get in touch.. he did what he could then his manager stepped in and said I had to either come in to the branch (drive 30 miles there) or do things through my local branch. Such people are few and far between though. On the whole, I dont think they do themselves any favours.

its like that at most marques, went in tok manchester audi with the wife and one guy spoke to me like a peice of **** and when i went to the loo spoke to the wife like she was thick aswell and very aloof. Upon pointing out his deal wasnt very good he pretty mcuh wanted me out the showroom despite explaining i had a personal credit line in place anyway, he didnt believe me .......

.... so i expressed my displeasure, stood up walkked over to another salesman and placed a deposit on an RS4.

    Bellend.

Needless to say when we wnet back in a week or so later as had to change car plans due to her being pregnant (budget was split between 2 cars, current audi, my RS and some nursery stuff) the bellend was considerably more helpful lol

I think I've settled on an E-class sport estate. I'm just blown away by how great the Merc dealers have been, they can't do enough for me. I've test driven c-class saloons, estates as well as e-class saloons and estates in each guise from SE, avantgarde to sport. Felt like I had to beg for a test drive at Audi and BMW blew their chances early doors.

Feck! Brought the e-class estate to the house to check it fits in the garage - nope!:-( The saloon only just fits, touching the rear wall and the door misses the bumper by about 3mm. looks like it'll have to be a c-class estate.

Following on from my new purchase, I have a set of Thule aero roofbars with footpack and 1212 fitting kit for the B6/7 A4 saloon. I'm going to stick them on eBay, but if anyone on here is interested pm me and you'll get the preferential treatment.

We all have positive and negative stories to tell about those who sell. Many have a bias because in the UK we are complete snobs and generally sneer at those who sell for a living. That said, sad to say in my lifetime I have encountered more negatives than positives.
For those owners and salespersons who are right up themselves because of the 'supposed' cache of a badge, I was intrigued to encounter last week a most efficient charming and knowledgable young man who without any hint of patronisation negotiated the part-exchange of my wifes car. I merely stood on the sidelines, watched and listened. The deal was far better than she had hoped and my wife who has no interest in cars whatsover other than something to get her from A to B avoiding using a bus or a taxi has the car SHE wanted NOT what the saleman wanted to sell. My goodness how the experience compared with the arrogance of BMW and Porsche dealers and sadly a few Audi dealers - must be the residual Germanic world domination aspirational bloodline.
    So well done Nissan.

I have no idea why you would do that

The only dealer I've bought a car from is Arnold Clark and that was a joke. They had had the S3 in stock for 5 weeks and couldn't shift it due to price/colour/people not getting insurance on it. I went in to see it and eventually decided I wanted it, made it clear I had the money for it and the salesman totally mucked me about and treated me like an idiot, not returning any calls or even trying to close the sale. Eventually another salesman had to take over after I told them to leave it and pretty much begged me to come back in and give them another chance. Apparently the original salesman had been promoted and was 'too busy' to deal with me or return my calls - amazing!

Thankfully my boyfriend is a dealer with his own garage stocking in excess of 100 cars so sources mine for me now which is cheaper and easier, I probably wouldn't buy from a big dealer again now, too much hassle.

Mercedes are desperate to lose their 'old man image' as was Volvo, and of course Rover never did.

My experience of Mercedes dealers is of professionalism and staff who are proud of what they do. We in the UK look down our noses at those who sell, and many salespersons themselves have a self-worth problem, which is why they will describe themselves as being in 'marketing '. I always chuckle when I see the sign 'Marketing Suite' on a new housing estate, how pretentious is that? - er hello it's a sales office, so what are you ashamed of?
