My car sat nav is rated at 1A. I have a usb adaptor to put in my car fag lighter which is rated at 2A. Is that 2A the output of the USB, or is the 2A the maximum that can be drawn through the USB by the Sat Nav.

The sat nav will draw a current (I should imagine this is a maximum rating) of 1 amp, the usb can supply a current of 2 amps, basically you could safely run 2 sat navs, this is still only a fifth of the sockets actual power.

As oposed to voltage. If you supply a higher voltage, this kills the device. It doesn't "draw" only the voltage required.
Well to give you an example, my dads road was supplied with 400v this week and it killed everything switched on, tv, laptop and central heating to name a few. I honestly don't know the science behind this though![]()
