I was going to start a new thread but I figured there isn't much else going on in this thread...

Me and a friend are going to be going on a euro road trip on the bikes. Just looking for any advice to make our lives a bit easier...

We will be going from Devon to Portsmouth and getting ferry to the neverlands, then riding to dusseldorf where we will be catching a sleeper train down to Verona. From there we will be catching the coast all the way to barcelona. Then up to santander to get the ferry back to our motherland. In total were looking at 16 days, and as road trips go, it really isn't very long in comparison to some, looking at about 1500 riding miles.

Few things we are still scratching our heads over, first off is it worth taking camping gear, obviously it will take up alot of space, but then will save the hassle of find hotels with secure parking in some places. Also looking into security of the bikes. Neither of our bikes have alarms or immobilisers, not sure if it's worth it as people will easily just chuck them into a van if they want them. Will be obviously chaining them together... So good luck with that. Another thing wee debating is, worth getting a satnav... As sometime then can make things worse. Or perhaps just Tom Tom on iPhone will suffice.

Any advice would be appreciated

Probably one of the very best all round bikes ever made, always liked it with the single sided swing arm :)

bit of a thread revival.

Sold the fireblade a couple of months ago, traded it for a 1098s will post some pic's tomorrow.

dont bother with camping gear unless you got a BMW or goldwing etc the extra stuff you gotta take uses too much room and if it rains the stuff will be wet too. Earlier this year I went to Scotland 1300 miles 6 nights all my gear went in 38 litre topbox, planning longer trip to Europe next year may invest in panniers.

Ha, good timing,

I returned from my trip yesterday, ended up 12 days long, 3 of us visited the netherlands, Germany, Italy, France and Spain, Riding a total of 1750 miles. Was pretty sweet! I also didn't do a single nights camping, hotels all the way! Camping would of required way too much gear and a load more discomfort! Managed to get all my gear in a tail pack and backpack, and didn't notice it on the back of my r1!

You all have very nice road bikes but do any of you ride off road.

Right now I'm rebuilding a Honda cr 125 2002. I will hopefully have it finished in time for the 2 weeks of good weather we get up here then it will just be fun in the mud time. Get in.

been wanting to get a enduro bike for the winter but funds havent allowed yet...

some really tidy blades above! really makes me want to tart my R1 up a bit... but I do like its understated look...

Hi Alsie boy, good to see you here, did you get the blade back to it's glorious spec after that accident? (was one of the cleanest original spec Urban Tigers around) Alsieboy is bit of an expert on the old blades :)

Here's my '06 blade ,

siderear.jpg

FMF Decat race system, Power commander 3 with custom map, BMC filter, removed EGR system, fast road set up, remote rear res, earls lines, Pazzo levers, single seat conversion, rear peg delete, Zero G dubble bubble, Clear alternatives rear light & integrated indicators, it went on and on and on......had it 4 years but had to sell it last year due to finances :blownose:

Hope to get another bike this year, this is the first time in 18 years without a bike and its real painful.

Hi there fella, the blade is still a work in progress, almost fully restored, all the bodywork is brand new, still needs a full set of standard indicators, just picked up a new old stock can on evilbay will make an appearance in the spring/summer this year, looking forward to it, although it will be sold this year :(

I dont currently have a bike. But here is a few pics of the ups and downs from the past couple of years.

My first bike before passing my test and which never made the road.

I was shortly made redundant and got a few quid so bought this

I wasnt ready for a modified R6 so after nearly killing myself a few times I sold it to get this
Unfortunately I dont have a before pic but it used to be black/blue and it was a rusty mess!
DSCF2752.jpg

Then I was ready for something a little bigger again.
So got this - again I dont have a before pic but its not a massive difference. Just a new coat of white + new decals.

Bored again so thought id go back to the beginning somewhat with another 400.
Didnt get to do much with this one as the missus got pregnant so I decided to do away with the bike..

I know right!
i think the next bike will be a cruiser like a harley as it was the speed i tended to ride at that scared my family..

A bike thread. Now were talking :) This is my ride...

Well I say my ride... it's shared between me and my brother but I competed in the Le Mans 24hr race on this in 2010.

This is my Dad's classic superbike which we are racing at Spa in the 4hr endurance in June. Love it.

Here is my bike (strictly off road for me) it's a 2003 cr250. Spent a small fortune on it over the last year and a half. It is almost like new in the first and second picture..

Unfortunately last august I had a pretty big crash and the bike hasn't moved since due to a really swollen thigh and pelvis (only starting to go down now) going to get it back out in the spring though and go through the long process of getting my confidence back to where it was in august. This is how it looks now :(

There`s some tasty machinery in the pics above. I`m a former biker, last raod bike was a CBR600, I`ve also done a fair bit of off road stuff but gave up due to injury or should that be due to age, it just hurts too much now when you fall off than it used to do a few years ago. If I could stop myself spending money on cars I`d have some spare for a road bike :)

Like the CR. I bet that can be a bit vicious? I had a CRF250 for a while. I've raced for years but only just got my road licence a year ago! I dont have a road bike but my dad lets me go out on his mint Suzuk GT750 two stroke. Ahh... two smoke!
