I JUST LOOKED AT MY AIR FILTER AND THINK I NEED A NEW ONE (DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY) I ONLY CANHGE THIS 2 MONTH AGO THAT WAS LIKE 2000 MILE .... THE ONE THE GARAGE HAS PUT IN ITS A PAPER ONE WITH LIKE A FIBER FILTER AT BOTTOM NEVER SEEN ONE LIKE THIS BEFOR ....
BEEN THINKING OF CANHGING THIS CANT DECIDE WHICH ONE TO GET THOU I BEEN READING THAT A GREEN PANNEL FILTER OR THE PIPE ACROSS PANNEL FILTER WOULD BE BEST ONES LIKE £50 POUND ONES LIKE £35 THERE THE CHEAPEST I HAVE SEEN (EBAY)
ANY SUGGESTIONS WHICH IS BEST FOR PROFORMANCE NOT BOTHERED ABOUT THE NOISE ASPECT ..... AND IF ANY 1 AS SEEN THESE ANY CHEAPER

CHEERS NICK

Performance gains will be negligible from what I have read, but you will be able to wash the panel filter and if yours are getting that mucky in 2000 miles and your a 10k a year driver then I suppose its worth it then.

cheers for that i know i wont gain alot iam not really bothered about gaining power i really just dont want to be losing it ..... as have hurd that some filters can have a neg effect .....
also i was really wanted to know if people had seen these filters with the fiber filter stuck on the bottom as i have never seen them like that as its only the fiber filter thats mucky the rest is clean as a whistle ?

my a4 air filter has that fibre meshy stuff...like a scourer. Its to stop leaves and that getting stuck in the paper folds

Jetex panel filters are really good too.

OEM have proved to flow just aswell or better than aftermarket ones, stick oem in job done cheap as chips.

its just looking at the face the fiber filter is dirt as hell and rest really clean thats putting me off keeping with the stand filter .... it looks like the fibers a block and i just think that this may slow air flow i have alos read some where that they is a air box mod that can be done to increase the amount of cold air as any one hurd of this ???

Are you sure its an oem filter, the mod wont do squat imho, its still a box, it would need to be cylindrical to move air better imho with a direct through feed of air like say on a bmc cda of which I have, as it is, it has a feed that then does a left turn immediately from the grill, then a u-bend, then into a long rectangular box of which has a tube to maf at end, you can hollow out the box but wont help rest of its shortcomings & even with the dust collected it was proved on was it tdiclub forum cant recall totally, anyway they tested & showed oem was just as good or better than other panel filters.

Performance wise, none of them will make a difference that you'd notice if at all, I still suggest oem in your situation.

Also how is hollowing out the box going to help with colder air, it would need heatshielding for a start from the engine warmth to help any air travelling through to the turbo.

i dont know i take my car to audi specialist .... they bound to know whats what and fit the right filter i read some where that they is a hole that has not been cut out but is market to be cut out and by cutting this out and feeing a new air hose from the lower grill in my front bumber all the way up ..... after speaking to your guys i think iam just going to leave it as sounds very much like a chav mob that doesnt do any thing but waste ya time lol .....

Just buy a BMC CDA, job done, no filters needed to replace, just clean out once in a while, less confusion.

just ordered the green pannel filter now any way we will give that a try =)
