Jeeez, what was the TT running on? 4.23 :O
Jeeez, what was the TT running on? 4.23 :O
After spending £1300 on a new sachs racing clutch and flywheel im not going to be launching the car at the weekend.. More than happy to race anyone from a roll but unfortunately I dont have enough money to replace it again for a while!
Sure that im now going to get slated, but honestly, I dont really care
I used to struggle between bogging down, wheel spin and clutch slip in the S3..before the clutch cooked itself and I had to stop and pray I could drive it the 8 hours home.
The C4s is best sitting at idle, PSM on, let the clutch up normally and as soon as you are rollin...nail it. And try not to hit the limiter. Doh!
I'm not risking my clutch and a 12 hour journey on a transporter just to get an additional 0.1 seconds off my time.
I'm happy to play..I just have to drive it home afterwards and if I break it..it's my wallet that gets lightened!
The forecast is rain for Sunday...which will please me...it's kinder on the car!
And with the drive the 911 has...gives me an advantage!
Lol honestly mate its going to be fun either way at the end of the day :D
best get some professional video editing on the go guys...wish i was coming!!
Pop over and say hello over the weekend.
You'll spot the car...I'll be the hungover, skin-headed, overweight chap stood nearby.
Off to bed now folks...up at 5ish to leave the frozen North at 6 for a long drive down tomorrow!
See you at Bruntingthorpe!
I agree with that completely. Needs to be changed. The 911S X51 I drove recently hit 80+ in second. Mental, but great if your driving it hard round some twisties.
Ah, so you felt compelled to join and post a response. There was no mention of your driving experience, I was only conveying my opinion on what I saw.
Having driven a number of 911's and having owned an S3 with similar power to Jonnys I can only assume from experience.
Guess the GT3 has an extremely long second gear...or your car needs a visit to an OPC for a check over!
Interesting vid, I have no doubt that given enough road, the GT3 would have flown past, suprised it couldn't pass it earlier though. Whilst out on a trackday in my mates SLK AMG32(around 350BHP and around 12 secs 0-100), we was only past by a handful of cars along the straight, an Ariel Atom, a remapped Porsche Turbo and 2 GT3 RS's! Car's that didn't pass us was an M3 CSL, Evo6 and suprisingly, a V10 M5(new shape one with 500bhp), probably didn't know how to drive though.
Forgot the name of the track now, the straight is almost a mile long?, I hit around 130mph before I had to brake for a chicane.
Great track , glad you had fun.
CPJ80 - No mention of my driving experience? Hmmm , so "if the GT3 was driven properly" does not relate to my driving experience i must be Santa Claus:applaus:
Anyway , Jonny has a very quick car there , fair play to him , every car he has ever had has been upgraded with a no expense spared approach and maintained in the same fashion.
completely agree. That video is crap. It looks like you get the jump on him at the start anyway. Not scientific at all.
look at the EVO times for an S3 around the west circuit and then the time of the GT3 RS, I think you will find about an 8 second difference. I dont care if yours is tuned, its not gonna beat a GT3 let alone an RS.
an S3 is just an audi, a GT3 is a special porsche, the RS, well thats even better. Get some perspective mate.
Also you are posting this on a public forum and seem to have videos of speeding on public roads. If you get done by the rozzers they will have so much evidence against you! Just think about what you post
A standard S3 has been timed on more than one occasion at doing 0-100 in 13.6 secs.
My Ed30 does 0-100 in mid-high 11's and that's with FWD!!! I know it's DSG (which will help a tiny bit), but with Jonny's having more power and the aid of 4WD off the line, it should easily get 11's.. But as he's just weighed out over a grand for a new clutch and flywheel, it may not happen this weekend (and I don't blame him). But it should be more than capable..
It's going to be a interesting day, that's for sure! Just hope it all stays friendly (no slagging) no matter what the outcome!:icon_thumright:
Love these threads.. lol
I guess my comments stemmed from the fact I was disappointed not to see the GT3 disappear into the distance. I'd have expected it to given the claimed acceleration times for both of the cars. The GT2 & 3 are the only cars in the range I haven't driven, so I guess the gearing must be different. I had a play with an X51 Carrera S and the in gear and standing start acceleration was significantly better than my S3. 0-100mph in well under 10 seconds.
No insults intended, if you really drove the car hard then Jonnys car is indeed impressive. Welcome to the forum anyway.
As has already been said. I hardly think Jonny is trying to make out his S3 is a GT3RS slayer. Just that in certain circumstances, the GT3 needs to be properly on the ball and for car as amazing as the RS is, to take nearly 3 gears to catch him, it's still impressive from the little Hatch IMO..
It's only a bit of fun the Porche driver was up for it too , Jonny " does " get the jump on him and boosts away , but the GT3 reels him in.
The video speaks for itself , if it would of been from a standing start or would have gone on longer there wouldn't be a debate.
Like pretty much everyone who has taken the time to read my comments has said, im not saying that my car is faster, quite the opposite, I said that the RS pulls back near the end of the video!
The S3 'just' being an Audi has nothing to do with how quick it is, which is all the video is highlighting, pretty soon ill be running around 500BHP in the S3 and shock horror it probably will be faster than the porsche in a straight line but it will still be 'just' and Audi, so i really dont get your point?
oooh 500bhp what you got planned?
GT3076 external wastegate, built internals, fuel pump, injectors etc etc etc..
Thats the plan anyways, the car has everything it needs now to accept a big hike in power so looking forward to it!
I need to keep on doing things to my car otherwise I just get bored with it unfortunately, doesnt matter what it is either! Should keep me entertained for a while I think.. :D
Lol yeah thats a good way to look at it, unfortunately ill struggle to get insured on one of those, paying enough on the S3 : (
Plus, still love the little hatch!!
A very healthy debate again!!!
So is everyone now clear that this is NOT a "my S3 is better the a porka GT3RS" thread????
Good - I quite enjoyed the video - the big thing it demonstrated to me is the difference between a car designed to be a super car and a car designed to be a fun road car. I remember when I borrowed a mates 996 Turbo the legs in the gears are comical - 95mph in 2nd gear! With the power jonny is running, and the length of the gears in the S3 it's no wonder it was off like a rocket at the start.
The sound of that GT3 RS though - what a machine.
Jonny - I can't believe you're taking your car even further - hat off to you for leading the way in this forum & taking the 8P to the most extreme level - I can't wait to see the end result.
Why are you spending so much money on an S3? Dont you think buying a better car might be the answer instead of tuning the hell out of an S3? eg. an RS4 how much have you spent on the car, (plus what you are planning to spend in the near future)?
Whats my point.. 500bhp out of an S3. Why? Isnt 300 enough? How much compromise do you have to make to get that figure? What does it do to economy/ride/daily usability? It just seems too extreme. If you are just using it as a weekend plaything then fair enough. Just think you could spend your money more wisely and get a better car.
My other issue is with racing each other on the public roads. Posting videos about it draws needless attention to yourself. If you had a smash and were trying to claim you were a good safe driver, a quick look on here would not support you and could be used as a character evidence against you. Its been done before.
On the topic of mega mods. I'm thinking of trading in my BS for an older, used 2.7 Cayman, with low mileage and getting an X51 engine and gearbox transplant, exhaust, brakes and new ECU. Should be good for 400+ hp in a mid engined car weighing less than 1400kg.
Surely it's up to him what he wants to do to his car? If he wants a 500bhp S3 (I know I would) then what's the problem? Yes he could get a different car for the same money, but maybe he likes the S3?!
Why put him down for tuning up his hot hatch? It won't exactly be the first time it's been done!, live and let live.
