Took the car to combe last week for ADI, went well although it was a shame the session was cut short. Also didn't help that the discs are completely warped and made heavy braking impossible.
Large port has made the car completely different as I mentioned before, it is laggier but definitely goes better as it climbs through the revs.
I have got hold of an N/A cam so that will go in the car during the week/next weekend and I will be doing some logging to see if it makes any difference. Not too fussed on peak numbers, but if it gets the car a bit more spritely off boost it'll be a success and be pretty easy to tell.
What engines the cam from mate? Also are you fitting just the inlet or both?
Where did you get it from mate? Been lookig for a set for ages but cant get hold of any!
i think from the thread that got started the adr ones are the better togo for, and i think your right on the exhaust cam, would be interesting to see what the both would be like though.
Published documentation suggests a variety of profiles for N/A engines. Even the ADR engines have multiple cam specs. You should put a calipers on the one you've got -- and you should also reconsider the exhaust cam. All N/A engines shared one profile, and it's significantly better than the one used on the 1.8T.
Surely the exhaust cams characteristics on a N/A car would be different to a turbo'd car, and if so, would the N/A cars characteristics be wanted when the car has a turbo?
Also, what is the general consensus on 76mm Throttle bodies?
Could you get hold of both inlet and exhaust? If so pm the details mate.
Im running a v6 tb which is 70mm ID i think, i had the plenum mouth ported to match and had a adaptor plate made and the car loves it, powers smoother and the engine feels revvier.
I think it might be 70mm ID, but a 76-63mm reducer fitted on it like a dream so I'll use one of them. That's good news on how the car feels though, I have the chance to stick the larger TB on mine, so I might go ahead with it. How much did you pay for one out of interest?
Im running a 76 to 63mm reducing elbow onto a 63mm ally t piece for a custom dv relocation kit.
the TB cost about £40 and the manifold and all the work cost £40 delivered which i thought was a bargain, i also gasket matched the runners myself just for the sake of a few hours.
That's a good price. The one I have (possibly) is from a 20V V5, also 70mm ID. That is a similar setup to mine, minus the DV relocation. Should be able to get my inlet mani sorted on saturday so it all fits as it should, then I'll do some logging and see if it's made any difference. Looking like a busy Saturday!
Anyone upped their rev limit whilst running a k04? I know Big Turbo builds have (welly back in the day & tuffty now).
Is it worth it on the K04 or is the fact that they are out of puff by then the key factor in not bothering?
Depends where it is now mate :) standard is 6800 I think, most normal maps are 7200ish.
Mines currently at 7100 and it used to absolutely headbutt that limit at 300bhp.
Ill be asking Niki for 7600 or 7700 next time :)
normal k04 are done by 7krpm so no gains in power upping beyond there..
wellys hybrid pulled a lot more, and we used 7800rpm on that one
Think it's around 7k at the moment, i usually change gear about 6600 - 6800 anyway, mainly because I'm not entirely sure where the limiter is and didn't want to be pinging it off the limiter on stock rods..
Might go to 7200, then 7k changes are compulsary.
Have another map coming to me tonight, which will have more timing and boost. The large port has made the car feel a bit flat, despite pulling as well, if not better, then it did on the small port. It will be another multi map, so i can run a decent amount of timing and if the worst comes to the worst and it's super hot and I have to put 95 octane in the car, i can knock it back to sensible stage 1 or 2 power.
