I think 3'' induction is an absolute MUST on yours, considering 2 years ago we were stretching ko4's to get 260bhp, and very few went beyond this, add in Bills 3'' TIP to the tiny ko4, and suddenly another 20bhp average was on tap for just about everyone, that's a pretty serious gain for a little turbo like the ko4.
Then consider your GT28, with it's massive inlet and housing (compared to the ko4), you've got a really nice 3'' tract to your MAF, which must flow brilliantly, then there's a reducer down to 2.5'', and a long tube at 2.5'' before the filter.
I'd think this surely MUST be restricting things a load.
The other thing I noticed: the FMIC, looking at Ace Cafe am i right in thinking it's an ebay turbo revs kit from when you had a ko3S, with the top half adapted to fit the new big turbo setup?
It looked like you still have 50mm IC pipework on the cold side leading into the cooler, I know Bill is against using such small pipe and always uses 60 or 63mm pipe, and on a ko4 A3 Niki recently mapped with 2'' IC pipes he said he had massive back pressure issues and the 50mm pipework just wouldn't flow enough for the turbo and limited power. larger IC pipes fitted and more power opened up. that's on a ko4, so imagine how it could be holding back your GT?
The core is also pretty small, so I'd imagine coupled with the 50mm pipes it must be getting pretty bloody hot on the AITs, have you ever logged it? mine was OK for the ko3S, but I don't think it would have coped on a ko4
I reckon by fitting a wellycooler with 63mm pipework, and ditching your CAI for an 80mm jetex cone straight onto your maf, you'd be removing two pretty big restrictions, and either making more power, or making the same power with far less stress and heat.
Wellycooler £250, jetex £50, not a huge price to make a wicked car even more awesome!
Ouch prawn I'm a little offended that you would put me down as a budget eBay fmc kind of guy lol ;-) its a forge fmc that came tried and tested with the turbo from backdraft. I will defo put a bigger filter on it though mate and I'm gonna modify my exhaust system too.
you got any pics of it with the bumper off Don? I'm 95% sure that's not a forge core, and the two pipes off the IC are identical to the ebay cooler setup I ran for years!
Don't be cross with me, but I've just looked back through all the pics on page 1, and after arguing about this with Jardo at Ace the other week too, I'd say I'm now 99.5% sure it's an ebay FMIC Don.

From what I could see the pipe size, core size, core design, everything looked absolutely identical to the ebay kit! Did you have the kit fitted yourself or buy the kit second hand / car came with the kit?
I've never seen a forge core or pipework like that. I'm really not trying to annoy you, but I think you've either been mis sold it, or someone has lied to you about where it came from!
Well got our DYNO day in a couple of weeks so I'll probably get a bigger filter for then and do 2 runs as for the fmc that can wait till I go for some bigger power.

And he was actually fine about selling them for that price he payed £400 a year ago and wore the tyres right down to the limit before selling them on. His mistake when selling was he didn't know what stud pattern or offset the wheels were so no one Bidded.
I was gonna paint then gun metal grey but they were in such good condition I couldn't bring myself to do it. There's not 1 mark on them.

Also prawn took me out in his track monster and I am the first to admit I'm not a great passenger but he had me screaming like a little girl !!!!! stripped off my backdraft gt28 kit by hand managed to unbolt the exhaust manifold still bolted to the turbo while jacked up with a spanner and a flexible right arm and its now shipped off to LVS Racing to be fitted to my partner in COV Aaron's S3
and i bid you guys fairwell as you can see in my sig iv now crossed over to the dark side 8P but my missus still has a 8L so ill be popping in once in a while and anyone interested in joining comrades of Vag search for us on facebook we have some Epic cars and a great club attitude where everyone VAG is welcome. ;o)
