Guess I will see...
Paul, do you happen to know what the diameters are of the red turbo for the standard turbo and charge pipe.
Where's the update from last night then Tuffty??
good info that cos i was goin to replace mine before long.....common fault isn't it?
Ye I do see what you mean. I dont actually need one its just my jubliee clip dont clamp the hose down sufficiently so it keeps slipping off under boost. So was going to get a silicone one to tidy up my engine bay too.
So the charge pipe end is 60mm, what is the turbo outlet.
muches graciarse gentlemen
is that the issue i suffered where it clicks and the damned thing wont undo ever again!!!
yes. nor will it ever tighten up again
ahhhh that happened when fitting her FMIC, i contacted Mr Silicone and had them send me out two new ones and a spare for free :)
....would anyone be surprised to hear that SFS haven't even sent my hose out yet?
what have you said to them?
Anyhoo, just got off the phone (again) with them and it would appear that they are going to make sure it goes out tomorrow for a Thursday AM delivery to my works address... apparently I was incorrectly invoiced on Friday for it and the 'computers' went down and there was a tidal wave blocking the drive so they couldn't get the yellow submarine out the chicken coup to make a ham and cheese sandwich... or something...
Pretty confident the blue thing I have on at the moment will hold for normal driving for now....
I used a 83 to 76 reducer for my R32 throttle body, the 83mm was tight but it went on
So, finally sorted the water pipe.... found out what the rattle in the exhaust was as well... bloody cat had done one, shrunk and turned around in the casing practically blocking the exhaust... brilliant...
...so, that was beaten and cut and drilled until it was gone!....
Until SFS feel I deserve to receive my hose I have stuck with the blue one for now, made it more secure and I am carrying my 1/4" drive set around with me :)
Drove the car home tonight tentatively as I am not sure what may happen if I get on boost and tbh I would rather that was done in the controlled environment of the dyno than on the road. It is fairly evident that the mapping is now a mile out, off boost the car is as drivable as ever, smooth and cruises at 40mph on CC in 6th with no problems at all...
I have Friday off to get the car ready for ADI, needs a bit of a clean everywhere tbh and won't be mapped in time but so far I am pleased she is running ok off boost...
A few closing shots to give you an idea of how the engine bay looks now the work is more or less done...
Nearly done... for now at least :eyebrows:
Glad i have a decat and cat for the mot now.
Who do you think that happened? Heat? over fueling?
Could have been any of the issues I have had during the build... I will look around for something more durable at some point...
Possibly why the turbo cracked, if the catalyst was partially blocking the system, the heat build up would have been immense
Would have contributed to it for sure... no telling when the turbo cracked or when the CAT did one tbh... I have had issues with EGT's but tbh they haven't been particularly high for a little while but regardless the damage was done and is now sorted...
The CAT is no longer an issue
The drive to work this morning was pretty much uneventful... the car drove superbly.... the engine certainly feels like its breathing better and the turbo sounds and from the boost gauge looks like spool should start a little earlier... we will see when I get her on the dyno although it won't be this week sadly...
Well looking at it, it does look like just the start of the thread is messed. I think il try a M12 x 1.5 tap then if that dont work il use a M14 then a 14mm threaded bolt.
Any places where I could buy a M12 from for cheap as I need one for today.
Shame your not local... could have given you one,
as i clicked "post quick reply" i thought...
Erm, thats all a bit rude that is!
take one for the team
Was keeping an eye on the liquid gauge and boost gauge on the way home from work this afternoon and noticed the boost gauge needle pop the wrong side of 2 bar!!!! so, tentative drive home after that!!!
Not at the workshop tonight so decided to take the ball and spring out of the UNOS (as I didn't have a joiner handy) and run off actuator pressure... took the car up the road and give her a blast in second gear firstly with Liquid displaying AFR which looked fine and then air flow... second gear to about 6.5k hit a max of 256gs at 0.7bar (10psi roughly) so was pleased with that... and I have a nice pop for the exhaust on gear change :D
Called SFS to check they had made and sent out my hose... they said they had... will be delivered to work AM Thursday... its alleged...
Anyhoo, happy the engine is running happier than before... still not going to give it death yet but at least she is running now without incident and from the look of the airflow on such low boost she is showing promise for so reasonable figures...
