How to?? : Full Ambient lighting fitted for £5.21
firstly i got to say this is a fiddly arse job! you will need.
6 standard RED 5mm 12v leds (not ultra bright)
1 soldering iron
some electrical cable (able to hold 12v)
2 red led caps
4 standerd led holders
2 chop blocks
some insulating tape.
Now before i start, i will say i know i could of used different tools i.e heat shrink and m/f connectors etc. In this case, i was using what i already had!
Go to your local maplins and ask for 6 standard red 12v leds, 2 red holders, and 4 standard holders. They will then hand you a little bag like so...
£5.21 down TA DAAA!
carfully remove the interior light cover, and using a phillips remove the 2 screws holding it up. Carfully lifting the front of the roof lineing poke your wires through to the light fitting, like so..
i simply split the wires from the chop block to power left and right LEDS. solderd the LED legs to the wire and wraped them in electrical tape. Run the Wires on the other side of the chop block along to your A pillar, tucking the wire under the lineing as you go along. gently lift the trim on the A pillar so you can access the wires from the door side. Pull down the rubber seal on the door and it will give you more room to access the wires from near the fuses.
before anyone comments, the pillar pod was from my scooby, hence the uneven edges as i had to trim in to fit. The door rubber covers this so happy days :)
i plumed into my already fused gauges so was simple from here. simply tap into the block. I have leaft my fuse as is as im only running 2 1w leds.
I understand our cars will vary from trim. My pre facelift has no room for 2 symmetrical fitted LEDS so i impovised.
using a small screw driver i peirced the roof lining. then poked a 5mm pozzi drive through the pircing. I think if you use a drill you mite do more damage than good by wrapping roof lining round the drill bit.
I then popped these little red flat led holders in the hole.
and the end result is this...
I will do the footwells with the remaining LEDS as they are soft light leds. i will then has as per title.. Full ambient lighting for £5.21! :)
