this is awesome!
it looks like an S8 motor into a B5 V6 is pretty plug and play, especially if you kept the same gearbox.
im watching this with interest; an office relocation means i will be putting mega miles on the A4, so it might only be a a your or so before i have a high mileage a4 redundant from its daily duties to play around with!
Thats awesome, would never have thaught the standard cats etc would have bolted on!
Makes a convesion that little bit cheaper, only bespoke part you need is a pair of mounts!
How long before she will start?
Not too eager am i ? LMAO
Waiting for a crank sensor - the S4 one I have has the wrong connector (D-shaped).
Did you have to do any cutting of the bulkhead to get that engine to fit?
What can I say guys?
All the hard work - I haven't slept since Friday, has paid off.
She runs! Albeit loudly, no downpipes bolted on yet, but she runs!
Now where's that ice cold beer?
Just had a little read through the updates, nice work mate, she's coming along a treat!
Nice work :)
Well done chap!
Both my catalysts suffered from the split-flexi syndrome, so they're being repaired. It's just short term, so I can at least use Outlaw, and be able to drive her to get her new custom system made on the car.
Had other clients to attend to today, but have managed to remove the old 5-speed propshaft (the 6mm hex-bolts to the rear diff were a b!tch to undo!) and replace it with the B5 RS4 item.
At least, the catalysts can now go on, as all the tunnel items above - 6-speed selector mechanism and propshaft have been done. So, hopefully, my catalysts will be ready tomorrow, and I can then bolt them on, and run the engine, take some video footage without annoying my neighbours.
Great work Siena. Anything tricy in getting that prop shaft? Mine will need done sooner rather than later....erm. Was you're in relatively good condition? I believe it's that same unit for saloons and avants :sly:
if you still have the bumper off can you take pics of the water bottle please? if you can where the headlamp motor fits into bottle
You just have to make sure the hex key you're using is fully engaged before applying pressure, otherwise they'll round off. Also, forget using L-shaped keys, I busted 2 Snap-On items, before I decided to use a regular 3/8" drive key, WITHOUT an extension.
Mine's in good shape, Avant and Sedan use the same propshaft.
cheers, at least i will know where to look and there may be a bung or something there
look forward to pic
Still loving this Sienna. Amazing work. When do you think this will be completed and on the road full time?
Planning on offering this conversion to others?
Hopefully, will all be ready, and cruising the streets next week.
Well, busy day.
The car's pretty much back together, the electric fan arrived today, and so did the crank sensor.
Initial fire-up saw very erratic running, it wouldn't idle, or rev. In the absence of a laptop, I had no choice but to bring my desk top out. Ignition primary triggers were wrong, as were the value for next firing tooth. I need to put a timing light on her though, to get it spot-on, but that's one of tomorrows jobs
Corrected these, and the car now runs, idles and revs. I have a noisy PAS pump, the shaft has excessive endfloat, so that will need replacement. Tomorrow, I'll drive her out of the garage, where she's been for 3 weeks, and check injector duty cycles, I'm looking at buying some nice fat 440cc units.
I've got some video clips, still waiting for them to finish uploading.
After applying some primary trigger / timing corrections...
GOOD work mate .:respekt:
I assume the rattly nature is due to the way the camera/phone picks up the sound?:friends:
I can't wait till you can drive her and we get some proper sounds:yellowrs4:
The clickly noise is the PAS pump - it has excessive endfloat in the shaft.
I sent someone on here a PAS pump, resovoir, pipes and rack, he later claimed he didn't need the pump, and sent me his broken one. I found out last night, after I checked for the mark I dremmel'd onto the body.
I'm not pleased about that.
My phone does amplify it though.
Hope its not spat crap all round the rest of the PAS system....
I'm going to have some fun finding places to fit the PAS pump and the Alternator on my engine... The chassis gets in the way of the standard locations :(
I've no sound at work, so i'll watch the videos later.
Sounds like its coming along though!
Nope, it's a bad vane pump.
just needs the whistle of two GT28's in the background now!
Just read the whole thread. And i must say well done mate, the car looks amazing!!! And i bet your happy you got that engine in. Love the colour it stands out!!
Probably one of the best build threads i've read! Do you have any more photo's of the car? And recent ones?
Next thing is to set up the idle, but need an extra electric fan - the 16" Kenlowe I'm running is way too small for the S8 motor, and during set-up yesterday, temps were as high as 95 degrees.
I'll be running a second one, ordered Friday, so should be with me in the week sometime.
Nice one, i cannot wait to see this in the flesh
Just been through the last 10 pages after finding this thread - absolutely amazing project and really interesting to read.
Great work :icon_thumright:
Siena your gonna make it to Audi Inters?
Not sure, RAS.
Not far from completion...
I had issues with the 14" electric fan I ordered - during a mapping session last week, coolant temps went as high as 95 degrees, 90 degrees is more like it.
So, I've ordered a pair of 12" fans, which hopefully should be with me by Tuesday / Wednesday. Public transport sucks balls big time, can't wait to get back where I belong - behind the wheel of a B5 A4 with S8 power.
A few pictures of her taken today - ignore the unsecured radiator, has to stay that way till I fit the new fans, I need access to the inside to pull the retainers through...
...And a couple for our badge brigade - badges as far as I'm concerned, are richly deserved. :ninja:
i didn't realise outlaw was also a quattro. SWEET!
