Lazy detailing newbie and swirl mark removal success
I hate cleaing my car but I still want it to look nice. I usually take it to my local polish car wash guys who do a fantastic job but over the last couple of years have attracted swirl marks.
I have done a lot of reading and research on here and came to the conclusion that Poorboys Blackhole was the way to go. But I was a bit apprehensive about usiing a buffer of any kind, and I am just too damn lazy to do it by hand with pads. I have an Halford own brand plug into the cigarette lighter D/A thingy that I used to take with me to car shows to polish the Cossie, but was a bit reluctant to use it on my Audi.
Now, fast forward a couple of weeks and I am in possession of a bottle of Blackhole, a nice sunny day and a freshly washed car by the polish guys. On go the shorts, vest, flipflops, in plugs the iPod and out I go to attack the car.
Still crapping it a bit at this point as to whether I would totally f**k it up or not, and had looked up local paint correction specialists on the net just in case.
Here we go, Blackhole on the terrytowling pad and onto the paint it goes, nice slow easy action over a small area, slowly increasing the area and discovering what "letting it haze off" really means. I did the rear O/S quarter first, as it was closer to the house, and if I did f**k it up I wouldn't see it as much every time I got into the car !
Wiped it over with a microfibre cloth and ohmybloodygod where the hell did that finish come from? Did the whole car in around 40 minutes and then used the same buff on, haze, wipe off technique to apply a coat of Megs NXT spray wax with the furry pad, and the finish got even better.
Not a single swirl mark exists on the car and it looks wet and glossy, just like the ones in the Audi showroom. And that is with a cheapo Halfords polisher that is like holding a vibrating brick, you may get easier better results with a more professional polisher.
So for those of you who are a bit reluctant to try and have a go, just do it, you will surpise yourself how good it comes out with little effort. Like I said, I am really lazy when it comes to cleaning cars but I am not bothered when this finish goes off, so I can do it again. With the Blackhole coat and the megs wax it took me a little over 90 minutes taking my time and the results are truly stunning. I didn't know my paint contained little flecks of red, green and purple, I have never seen it this clean and shiny.
Hopefully this post will insipre you to go out and do your car, if I can do it anyone can.
