Hi all. Thinking of buying a used A6 but i have heard some horror stories about the 2.0 tdi engine. Is it true that the oil pump is a week point on these engines and if so, what do i need to look for? It looks as if this car has been well looked after and serviced regularly but i'm still abit worried that i might end up buying a car that is going to go wrong on me. Any advice would be more than welcome.

as they are quite close to me, around 7 miles away.

I called and asked them to quote for the centre console area, glovebox trim and all 4 door inserts....£90 all in cash
He did say after I left the car that he would also try to do the dash within that price, but later called to say it was too complicated / time consuming so I left that out, after negotiating a price reduction down to £70
I've posted this to share, as it may be useful for any local owners that may be intersted, or for any owners who may be visiting / passing through that like it. I'm sure I could help with drop off / pick ups etc if required.

Well, after al the work I've done on my car recently, I thought I'd spend a few hours and get her cleaned up, washed, Poorboys Blackhole applied then covered with Natty's Blue paste wax..............she looks gorgeous.

Unfortunately, I can't even post a pic or two as I'm so annoyed....lol ( Insert many & varied expletives for annoyed !! )

Got in my car and took my son to drop his car off today............It was such a warm day, around 22c I put the AC on COLD & FULL BLAST only to receive a slow steady stream of warm air.

Was hoping it may just need re gassed although I knew it probably wasn't likely.

Took it to an Air con specialist who did a free check and said that the gas was fine, no issues there.

Upon further inspection, he seems to think it looks like the following...

Compressor has gone ( shaft snapped I think he said ) £394+vat
High pressure sensor needs replaced £49.83+vat
Labour to remove bumper, remove and refit compressor etc £120+vat
Regas £40+vat

I get the total to £724.59

Wow - wasn't expecting this when I woke up this morning!!

To be fair I suspected that something wasn't quite right for some time, it just didn't seem quite as cold, but other than that nothing I could put my finger on

Going to head off to do a little research...............Any useful / helpful comments appreciated as always

I looked into this a little deeper today, made a few calls etc, then decided to visit Halfords for a Re gas / check to see the current state of play there.

Initially, I was offered a little hope after the found out that there was only 200 ( unsure what the UOM is?? ) in the system but it should between 510 - 530 so was low!!

I briefly had a thought that they would simply re gas it and everything would be fine

No Joy....lol

They also stated that it could be the compressor, or electrical issues, but that they just weren't sure to be honest and recomended a local VWAudi specialist nearby.
I checked them out and they did a VCDS diagnostic ( charging £40 ) and found faults as follows

Unsure if it helps or even relates?

Sorry for the crappy phone pic!!

It was mentioned at some point that the compressor isn't linked to Vagcom and so wouldn't show as a fault..........Its mechanical and diagnosed visually and in other ways?

Anyhow, he cleared the codes and then recomended the guy he uses, Mark Henderson 07770 732325 who is a specialist and does a lot of this type of work. He did say that he thought it may be the compressor and that these were a fairly common failure on VWAudi.

I called Mark to discuss, he expalined at some length what he thought the problem may be, basically as it had run low on gas the lubricant may not have been lubricating the seals thoroughly etc etc and the compressor just gave out.

He's coming to have a look on Friday morning and has esitmated at around £400 to replace as new and get it all working good as gold again.

I did ask for a "cash" figure and got him down to £350 if it is what he thinks it is.

If thats the case and he guarantees his work for at least 12 months, I'll be going down that route I think......we'll see

I'll let you all know how it goes of course.

"Why is there so much month left at the end of the money?"

hi all

new to this forum so go easy :)

I'm considering a 2010 A6 2.0TDiE Avant.

I'm new to Audis and I just have one concern (coming from a Ford S-Max), which is that on starting and each time you give the throttle a very slight blip the whole chassis 'wobbles' once quite noticeably, presumably due to the torque. Also there is a lot more of the diesel idling vibration coming through the drivetrain that I'm used to with a couple of Fords and a Merc. I have driven a VW Passat which is presumably fairly similar to an A6 and did notice more idle vibration, but not this 'wobble'.

I am a little paranoid having had to replace a DMF in my current Ford and just want to be sure this is normal behaviour on an A6.

thanks in advance

My rear wiper today started working of it's own accord and eventually parking in varying positions, pushed stork on and off to no avail. I washed the Avant yesterday and now thinking if this has caused it - water ingress, although the car has been washed many times and this problem not showing up. Has anybody had this themselves and could it be water ingress. Thanks in advance - Roly:uhm:

Hi All,

I'm a current BMW compact driver (2002) which has a 2 litre auto petrol engine running on LPG. I've just managed to get the car through its MOT, but its costing me increasing amounts of money and all in all I've lost trust in it (and the wishbones need replacing in the next month, which is another £300 on a £1500 car).

I've seen an Audi A6 Estate 2.0 TFSI manual for sale at a price I can deal with, £5,000. Its got 125,000 miles on it, leather seats, Sat Nav and is an S-line from a private seller. Full audi service history, had cam belt changed.

Couple of things I'd like to know:

I've read that TFSI engines cannot be converted to LPG, is that a definite?
The boring question, what sort of mpg should I expect out of it around town, on the motorway at 70, motorway at 80 and combined?
Are there any real inherent weak points on these cars? I've read the engine if run on premium is pretty decent?
Is 125,000 miles going to cost me a lot of money in the next 3 years (assuming 15,000 a year)?
Are they a good car in general?
How simple are they for DIY fixes? My BMW is a great car to work on yourself.

I've managed without an estate recently with the use of bungee cords on my hatchback, though it is in no way ideal (and also, I'm buying a kayak in the next few weeks as well as building a rowing boat which will both need to be transported in/on it!). No kids though, and no dogs - but not going to let that stop me.

Thanks all,

Pie

Hi guys

Need help!! The car is a 2006 3.0 TDI Quattro A6 Avant, tiptronic auto.

When under heavy accelleration (noticed mostly when moving away quickly at roundabouts, traffic lights etc - mostly in the lower gears) there is a very loud and noticeable noise that lasts until it's up to speed and then stops.

It's a loud kind of buzzing noise? Maybe humming is more description. It's a kind of 'BBRRRRRRRRRRR' noise, and it can last a good few seconds at a time.

It's most noticeable pulling away from stationary quickly (heavy accelleration), but can also do it at speed if you put your foot down.

The noise seems to be independant of the gearbox (note geabox works fine, all changes good etc), but hard to tell because of the course the revs change when the gear changes. You can force it to make the noise sometimes if you drop a gear (which pushes the revs up high again). But the noise is seperate to the revs of the engine if that makes sense.

The car drives beautifully otherwise. Cruises absolutely perfectly, great on the motorway etc.

Any idea what on Earth this annoying (and worrying!!) noise might be???

Just thought I'd pass on the knowledge from my cars latest wobbler:

My 3.0 TDI had a little fit whilst out on the road, power was limited, glow plug light started flashing. Went home parked up and looked on the net for advice. Found no specific answers, some people said its a symptom of the turbo on the way out.... Went back to the car a day or two later and started off....holy sh1t, what a mess, wouldn't change gear automatically, only via paddles, ABS light came on, ESP light came on and when I stopped I couldnt get the key out!

Got an appointment with a superb indy Audi garage who reckoned these were all symptoms of fluctuating voltage due to a duff battery. he was right, replaced the battery, reset thousands of faults and away she went good as new..... phew, a relatively inexpensive outcome.
