I know very little about air conditioning systems, so here goes.

Car is a 2003 1.9 TDI B6 A4 with the standard 2 zone climate control.

It's had a problem for over a year now really. On moderate days (15-20 degress) after sitting for a day in the sun, I get in and open the windows to let the hot air out. I turn on air con to 21 and leave it. Fan speed will go to 1 or 2 bars and stay there for about 3min, pumping out cool air. Then after that the fan speed goes to 4-6 and pumps out cool (not cold) air. So all is fine, despite it not doing what it should.

On a hotter day, or if I put the air con on LO, the fans go crazy and just pump out ambient air.

So that's the problem. It was recharged a year ago (professionally) and there are no fault codes stored.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is? It strikes me as a problem with wear somewhere in the system - because it works when running at low speed, but not faster.

Any ideas gratefully received!

A/C issue on B8 Avant - wiring problem?

A/C doesn't work! Had gas checked and it is OK. Ran a VCDS scan and got the below.

Should note that I had a similar issue in June 2011, fixed under warranty - I don't know the details (didn't run a scan that time) but they said it was a wire that needed replacing.

Annoyed as the car had main dealer service and MoT in Jan while still in warranty (just) and they didn't pick up on the fault codes (dated Dec 2012) as Audi say they don't routinely run a fault code diagnostic when doing a service / health check!?!? Now they want £145 just to investigate and find out what is wrong!?

Faults indicate a communication error between the main switch panel (J255) and the central electronics module (J519), A/C Pressure/Temperature Sensor (G395) and Air Quality Sensor (G238). Then errors between the central electronics module (J519) and the A/C Pressure/Temperature Sensor (G395) and Air Quality Sensor (G238).

Anyone had a similar issue, know where these sensors are or how I could check them? Is it easy to take the main switch panel out and check for a loose wire behind? Would the J519 communicate with G395 and G238 via J255 (in which case it could be a dodgy bus connection on J255?

Tried a search but nothing to do with my issue popped up.

So whilst my car was in for a turbo I asked for a regas, he said sure and that hell do it for 40. Now come collection he said I won't charge you because when the car was up he noticed a pipe wasn't connected to the compressor and when he reconnected it there was a "clicking" noise and it didn't work so he thinks my compressors has gone.

Now on the way home from manchester today it came on freezing cold, then I turned it off n on and it was warm, then off and on again and was warm?
