Hi guys,

we have dynoed our A3 140 BHP TDi again pre and post Evolve Remap.

Note that the car is making more torque and BHP to start with than a standard car which is becoming a common thing for VAG Diesels.

Audi Quote 140 bhp and 236 lb.ft
Actual Output 150 bhp and 280 lb.ft

Remapped Output 180bhp and 340 lb.ft
Our quoted increase is therefore + 30 bhp and 60 lb.ft

So, based on Audi's base figures and our gains you should be getting a theoritical 170 bhp and 306 lb.ft

At what cost to the clutch?
Are the 140 TDIs fitted with a substantially stronger clutch and flywheel than the 130 PD TDIs?
Experience with those shows that although 320+ lb-ft is easy...the clutch and flywheel is only good for about 280-290 daily.
An uprated single mass flywheel and stronger clutch will allow the torque to be used...but they are awful to live with.

Just wondered if the 2.0 TDIs come with a stronger clutch/flywheel assembly...as friends of mine are fed up with changing flywheels and clutches on big-torque 130 PDs.

We picked up our A3 2.0Tdi with zero mileage in April 2008. We drove it straight from the dealers place to our unit and mapped it immediately. It now has 21,000 miles on the clock and there is absolutely no slippage whatsoever. The car is used as a daily commute by one of our Directors and is used for our mobile mapping excursions also. It gets it fair share of full throttle driving a couple of times a week at least!

The only time it ever gets returned to standard is when we are demonstrating our switchable map unit to customers. And then it gets mapped back almost straight away.
It has also been to Santa Pod on the ¼ mile and put down a 15.8. Not bad for a diesel.

In relation to our mapping gains, an extra 30Bhp and an extra 60lb/ft is really no different to most other reputable tuners quoted gain figures on the 140 TDi’s. If you check the gain figures that other tuning companies quote, you will generally see between 35-45 bhp gains and between 39-85lb/ft torque gains.
What is also interesting is that some tuners quote stage 2 or 3 without the mention of uprating the clutch/flywheel.
What we have consistently found though is that VAGs tend to put down more power than the manufacturers quote. As different tuners use different Dynos and strap cars down differently, the ultimate figures will also be different but what we are more interested in is the Gains made.
