quick question hopefully

car - late 2001 a4 avant 2.5tdi v6 quattro 110k not sure on engine number will check and post

while driving along at about 60mph not acceleating or slowing a sudden blip in power occured not for long maybe half a second and then back to normal, this happened twice in a short space of time,i did notice that the temp guage had stopped workin at this time for about 10 - 15 secs, and when the temp guage came back online everything seemed ok- can the temp guage affect the running of the engine? ive never noticed it not work before

i had a look around under the bonnet and the connection between the pipe from the airbox and the airflow meter was loose and slightly opening, not completely open,i have tightened this up and i havn't suffered the blip again yet.

the engine temp guage has always sat around 60-70 is this normal? or does it seem dodgy:hi:

You should change the temp sensor, relatively inexpensive. The temp. should sit in the midle at 90 degrees, if it sits lower then the thermostat is shot and wil need replacing. Unfortunately the thermostat is a quite involved job and is fitted under a cover behind the cambelt. I'm afraid that is a belt off job so will cost an arm and an leg to put right...better have the cambelt done at the same time !

just had my garage look at it, they tested the engine temp and it was 90 degrees but the guage still only reads 65 -70. so they rang an audi specialist who straight away said instrument cluster.
not sure myself i think il start with a temp sensor hopeing this will fix it as a cluster i am told will be around £450 ouch does anybody out there know if any second hand cluster will fit?

just an update

had the codes read and sure enough temp guage short to earth came up so the thermostat is fine just need a set of clocks now

thanks for that turkster

the saga continues, i was trying to source a decent garage to do the clocks and turned up an ex audi engineer working round the corner and he asked me which sender i changed, he says there are two and if i changed the one on top of the engine with the four wires then thats the wrong one he says there is another with two wires probably black in colour and down the front under the air box area, i cant find it does anyone know where it will be and is it a wheel off job to find it? any advice is welcome

engine number is ake registered 10/01
:confused::confused::confused:
