    Feul/Diesel Pump

    hi,
    bought my a6 2.5 tdi 02 plate last month. went to see it n no problems except very little black smoke. got him dwn a lot and bought it. put Ł40 diesel in n set of back hme. 40 mls into jorney, doin bout 120-130 (12am) n it just cuts out! not starting. did usual checks on hard shoulder n discovered no fuel getting to engine. neway towed it to my house n next day took it to local audi specialist.he checked fuel pump in tank n he sed sm1 had been filling tank using barrels. i.e. dodgy diesel, thus loads of crap in tank which had blocked the pump n it needs replacin n tank needs takin of n cleanin frm inside. replaced that n nw engine starts n idles. however does nt rev n gives out black smoke.nw he says could b engine fuel pump bt hes gna investigate further n then let me knw b4 he does nethin.
    what do u guys think?

    I think you need to buy a new keyboard

    I asume when the tank was flushed, and the fuel pump changed, that the fuel filters were also renewed?

    If it's been running on dodgy fuel it may be worth running some fuel/injector cleaner to give everything a clean out.
    I'm an optimist but I don't think it helps much.

    anyway yes i suppose the filters should have been changed. going to see it now down at the garage. i havent been since i gave it in. also want to check how much smoke its giving out.

    right went to the mechanic and he said that hes cleaned all the tank up, the pipelines, the filters all way up to engine. now there is diesel getting to the injectors but it still wont rev up. it just idles with loads of black smoke. i did not see it started though so i dont know how much smoke. he said he also tried jumping the car but to no avail. now he said he is going to take engine fuel pump out and send it off to be checked if its ok or jammed or broken. i should get a reply by tuesday.

    Same happened to me it was N75 valve. Car would not accelerate, any slow increase in speed accompanied by huge clouds of black smoke. Once up to speed would cruise ok.

    N75 sits on the turbo and controls boost pressure. Its circular and has a bright finish. Try looking on www.vagcat.com for your car , being careful to get the model year and engine type correct, and you should find a picture showing you where everything goes.

    right thanks for that.
    mechanic told me today that engine diesel pump has gone and the person he sent it to is saying Ł750 to recondition it and Ł850 for one thats already done.
    is this price good? if not, does anyone know anyone that recons diesel pumps in or near lancashire/northwest area?

    Last i looked at a price for this it was in the order of 1200 quid. I would check out the reconditioning company and double check the warranty you are going to get with it. Make sure you are getting the right variant. There are several 2.5 TDI engines all slightly different eg 150hp, 163hp and 180hp. As i know to my cost my 180hp is very different, the others i'm not so sure. If you get the engine number an Audi garage will tell you if you don't know already
