Chipped 2.5 5cylinder TDI timing

When setting the diesel pump timing on a chipped 2.5TDI is it set bang on the marks or is it advanced/retarded......

Chip make unknown. Last rolling road it was 160bhp 250 lbft torque.

Any help would be great

Sounds a bit low for a 2.5, how old is the car? The new ones are common rail aren't they?
