hi i have an a3 1997 which run perfectly except for one thing when you put your in 5th gear at about 80ish you get to about 3-4 thousands revs the car dies like the turbo isn't kicking in or something is stoping it from kicking in has this happened to anyone or does anyone know what the problem is, i thought it was the turbo or a split pipe but no, can't get my head around it,

If anyone knows whats wrong you views and help would be appreciated....

MAF issue?
Mine was dead after 3000 revs, replaced MAF and all OK.
You could try cleaning the MAF, although I doubt it will make any difference. Previous posts explain how to do this.
Check the connector to the MAF as well, the contacts might need a clean.

Sorry mate BUT what is a MAF and were is it located so i can give it a look,

Thanks

maf = Mass Airflow Meter

it is located directly after the air filter housing . it fixes onto the filter hosing and has an electrical plug coming out from the side and a large diameter flexible pipe the opposite end .

basicly the ecu monitors the amount of air flowing in using the maf , and the ecu then adjusts the fuel accordingly
