ok im new to diesel cars so not much good on problems i had my first long trip down the motorway, and noticed a excessive amount of black smoke coming from exhaust when accelerating . i could do with a few hints on what this could be down to please

All depends on what you mean my excessive. On wide open throttle most diesel engines will leave behind a cloud of smoke.

But if something is wrong the list of possible cause could be quite long; MAF failure, Injectors worn, Turbo failure, EGR clogged etc...

How many miles has your car done?

110000 yeah its mainly on accelateration(more throttle)
