    2.5 V6 Tdi

    Hi all im new!

    I have a 2000 audi a4 tdi.

    It seems far to sluggish bottom end and it would be great if it had more pickup.

    I have heard about various ecu remaps and boxes available but I am getting more and more confused.

    Here is what i have been looking at so far:

    After reading through other posts on here a lot of good things have been said about remaps.

    What i would like to know is:

    Which is the best thing to go for?
    Will it improve the cars bottom end performance?

    Obviously the cheaper the better but I want to go for something that will not damage my car etc etc..

    sluggish 2.5 Tdi

    hi Ash and welcome.

    I too have the 2.5 TDi v6 and can confirm that it's very very sluggish under 1400 rpm. It's so bad that I have to slip the clutch a bit with a heavy load to really get going. From what I hear the newer ones (mine is a 98 - so one of the first) with common rail injection are better.

    It's hard to see how a remap would much with this problem unfortunately. It's due to the turbo not having spun up fast enough to either push enough air in, or to add in extra fuel when it is spinning fast. Basically until the turbo is spun up, there's never going to be any power!

    I was in Germany last week, where I managed to get a hold of a new 3.0 v6 TDi quattro A4 (manual), and I can confirm that it too had no power low down, and that's 233bhp I think! It certainly made me feel better.

    My turbochip smoothed everything out and improved but did not fix the sluggishness at low revs. I read the post about the engine having a socking great turbo that takes a while to spin up and haven't seen a better explanation yet. Whether you can control the boost pressure in such a way to give boost faster i don't know, but none of the chip suppliers are advertising the fact if they can so i suspect not. Two smaller turbos might do the trick but then you're into engine redesign and mega bucks.
    I decided on a chip because the result was more power and torque than a box, and i have no intention of selling the car until its nearly worn out so transferability was not an issue. I went for turbochip because the output was within a gnats of all the others and more importantly the local agent was 20mins drive away so if it went wrong he was close to hand. I have posted as much detail as i can on my thread in this forum. if you want more info PM me and i'll give you my number

    Just something that you have to get used to and anticipate can be a bit of a pig with the 6 speed box losing your revs on a hilly back road and having to go right down the box to get them back up again!
    Dirty or knackered Maf doesn't help either!

    A custom or tailored remap may be able to improve / alter the boost setting although i'm not sure if it'll have much of an effect under 1400rpm's, try speaking to a few companies and see what they can offer?
