turbo problem on tdi, should actuator bar move when revving?

    hi
car in question is 1996 audi a4 avant 1.9 tdi 110 bhp

i have power problem with turbo not kicking in hardly at all. have checked for leaks and replaced mass air flow meter. now it's a suspected faulty n18, n75 or turbo actuator.

my question is should the bar on the bottom of the actuator be moving up and down to engage the turbo while the car is standing and i'm revving the engine? i have been told both yes and no from 2 different mechanics.

mine doesn't move at all. if it is supposed to move could it still be the one of the other suspects or is it def the actuator?
    any help appreciated, thanks

    Actuator illustrated here: http://www.technologie-entwicklung.d...t15-turbo.html

Apparently actuator can stick in position: cleaning may resolve it, assuming adequate vacuum is created.

get the car hooked up to VAG-COM and see if there are any fault codes. You can also drive the turbo actuator with it.

    Take a look here:

Turbo shouldn't be making any boost at standstill, not sure how car knows though, must be from speedo not reading etc.

thanks for the replies! turned out the lack of turbo was due a vacuum leak in the system after the faulty actuator advise i was given but now i may have bigger problems!

i've started a new thread for my new problem, if your kind enough to want to help or fancy a laugh check out the other thread
