I have an A4 2.5 v6 tdi quattro which is smoking every now and again (quite alot really) and it sounds like the oil breather is blocked from what i have read on this post and from a test revealing high compression in the crank case.

Has anybody replaced this part on their car and how di they go about it? Did you have to remove the turbo/injection pipes?

If so with removing either of these are there anything i should be aware of before doing so such as gaskets/tools i may need and if i need to bleed the fuel system or depressurise it first?

would be very grateful for any advice as i hope to do the job tomorrow.

Well, No replies but nevertheless i managed to get the job done.

It was quite hard work trying to get to the breather but by removing the ERS and associated pipes i was able to get to the breather and replace it. The breather looked reasonably clean but had high resistance to me trying to blow through it.

The new part is fitted and all is working well.

Problem solved!

Well done Joni, I think there is a thread on this site similar to yours, seems to be a common problem with the 2.5 TDI

Just out of interest what miles has your car done?

Mike
