OK, this may be a really silly question (please forgive my ignorance) but why are there no supercharged diesels? Why are they all turbo?

something to do with amount of power taken from the engine doesn't make up for the power the sc can generate compare to a turbo. But if they use the sc/turbo tech out of the new golf GT.... now that would be something !!!!

i have seen 'sdi' on the back of some polo's whats that about,

diesels benefit from small turbos as their rev range is low, small turbos speed up quicker, hmmm twin turbo diesel,,

sdi on the polos dont have a turbo, they are the rubbish slow *** ones.

as for supercharging diesels, some race boats use twin turbo charged and supercharged diesel engines. best of both worlds i guess.

If its prefixed by an "R" and then suffixed with a "2", "4" or "6" then I would say it is pretty cool /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
