how to remove scratches in headlights

as above, i have some light scratches on the lenses of my headlights and want to remove them, any advise?

I used 2000 wet and dry sandpaper with plenty of water and then machined polished it back up to give a good shine,wont work on deep scratches but got all the light ones out of mine.

If plastic, ive used some Brasso very lightly then polished it, worked wonders for me!
