    E-320 Avantgarde Mercedes - Jeffs Werkstat'ed

I was invited back by the owner of the Aston Martin DB9 to spend a few hours pampering his daily runner, an E-320 Avantgarde.

I planned to whiz around the outside, cleanse, and put down some protection then treat the leather to a good feed.

An early start and the forecast doesnt look too good. Hmm.

    Product
    AutoSmart G101
    AutoSmart Tardis
    AutoSmart Brisk
    AutoGlym Glass Polish
DoDo Juice Born To Be Mild shampoo
    Gliptone Liquid Leather system
    Jeffs Werkstat PRIME
    Jeffs Werkstat Trigger
    Jeffs Werkstat GLOS
    Meguiars Super-Degreaser
    Meguiars All-Season Dressing
    Meguiars Last Touch
    Meguiars Endurance Tyre gel
    Sonus Green Claybar
    ValetPRO Snowfoam

    Process

    A few inspection shots..

Wheels werent too bad some bad pitting on the inside though and wheel-weight glue remains.. The front end was covered in kamikaze bugs, just the usual for the mile-munchers! Sills/shuts were quite grubby, G101 saw to this. The black window-trim was quite badly stained.. Werkstat PRIME Strong was able to sort this later on in the day..

    Wheels

G101 for the rim and arches
    Meguiars Super-Degreaser for the tyres

Tyres scrubbed, arches cleaned with a long reach Vikan brush and my make-shift EZ Wheel Brush worked the inner-rim. Wheel mitt & small brush used to clean the front facing.

The wheel facing was quite badly corroded. A lot of the build-up on the inner rim wouldnt shift either would benefit coming off the car here for a proper seeing too.

    Sills and shuts

G101 used again here.. The odd splash of Degreaser on the hinge surrounds to remove thick sludge build-up.

    Wash process

First up, G101 was left to soak up the bug splats on the front end, lower bonnet, screen and mirrors. First foaming session and some of the smaller, intricate areas were cleaned with a detail brush.

All surrounds/crevices were quite built-up. I had a feeling claying would be very beneficial today!

Car was re-foamed with ValetPRO SnowFoam and given the Two-Bucket wash with DoDo Juices Born To Be Mild shampoo..

Severe lack of protection on this motor:

The Merc had probably the biggest tar build-up Ive ever seen! Take 10 minutes, some Tardis and a clean Microfibre cloth. Et voila!

Once happy I’d ridden all of the tar, I moved on to removing the other bonded contaminants with a Sonus claybar.

Here’s a shot of the general pick-up seen throughout..

    Before / After:

    A few post claying shots^

This left the car looking a lot smarter already:

Now, for the past 20/30 minutes, it’s been spitting. Only light rain, but, enough to prevent any polish going down... Had to move inside in the garage (a tight squeeze!)

Once inside and under the strip-light, I could see the condition of the paint..

Not great. Covered in hazy patches and lots of uniform scratches.

Bearing in mind our approach was mainly Protection, I decided to go with Jeffs PRIME Strong via DA followed by the Trigger applications.

    50/50:

Just to the right of the light reflection, you can see the 50/50 line going up.. Paintwork considerably darkened and deeper clarity seen.

Not too bad for an AIO.

The lights were set to Auto; gave a nice spread on the Audi’s rear quarter

Prime worked by Porter Cable 7424 and a Megs yellow polishing pad.

Smaller/tougher to reach areas by hand an a mf pad.

Smaller backing plate set up and used a Sonus spot(?) pad for the light clusters:

Britework & trim also polished with Jeffs Werkstat PRIME.

    Grill before/after:

The badge was a bit fiddly.. Supporting the rear, I was able to lift a lot of stubborn dirt off to leave a ‘like-new’, Mercedes badge

(Difficult to fully appreciate due to small image size)

Two applications of Trigger 30 minutes apart. Followed by a final GLOS wipedown. Tyres dressed with Megs Endurance. Wheels sealed with Chemical Guys JetSEAL109.

Dust caught in the window shuts removed with the Megs slide-lock brush

Interior hoovered. Dash/plastics de-dusted and doorcards spot cleaned with G101. Leather seats cleaned and conditioned. Windows polished inside and out.

    And thats about it!

    Total time 7hrs 2minutes.

Car popped back in the garage, packed up, and I was on my way. Nice car!

    Thanks for reading

Nice job, first time the car had ever seen any real attention by the looks of it.

    What year was it?
