looking at some of your threads i think i know what to get but still not sure. basicaly my car is 10 years old and has the usual scratches and swirls etc. i have a shot of a machine polisher that i used on the boot i painted myself to get rid of some orange peel with some g3 i had and a compound head. i want to go over the whole car to get the worst of the marks (mainly awirls) out and be left with a decent finish so i can wax it. what would you recomend and what sort of pad to use with it? i have some g4 as well but im not too sure what its best for. thanks

Best bett Ian would be to pop over to DetailingWorld.co.uk and have a read of the Detailing Guides seen in the sub-forums.

I currently use Meguiars and Menzerna compounds.. Intensive Polish, Final Finish, #83 & #80.

you need a soft pad and some finishing compound, i use autosmart evofine or chemical guys all in one.

Assuming it's a rotary polisher and given that you have little experience, I'd suggest adopting a slightly less aggressive routine and using polishes & pads that are more forgiving of less than perfect technique. My advice would be to consider using Menzerna 203S and Menzerna polishing pads (as opposed to harder compounding pads). By rotary, this combination will still give a high levle of correction, but at the same time will also finish down really well, negating the need for a second step. Details here...
