The owner before me mustn't of cleaned the insides of the wheels as much as he should of and on some wheels there's brake dust that just isn't going to come off with your standard wash. Is it a good idea to just clay the insides of the wheels and will this remove the baked on dust?

Thanks

Yes Claying will remove the brake dust - but will destroy your clay if lots of brake dust- do you have any products like megs wheel brightner / PS21 auto wheel wash ?

Once clean then seal with wheel wax - such as poorboys, or collinite 476.

I'd use wonder wheels if I were you, it removes 99% of the dust if you persevere

if you can get hold of some Autosmart Tardis, this will get rid of tar spots as well, saves the effort with a claybar :)

To add to the above, my routine to clean up wheels in this state would be Meguiars Wheel Brightner cut 4:1, then Autosmart Tardis neat, then clay (if still needed), then clean/seal with Werkstat Prime Strong, then seal again with Poorboys Wheel Sealant. :icon_thumright:
