I got the chance to work on this car for Dave, a DW forum member. Dave takes the car all around Europe to shows and is recently back from Norway. In the next few weeks he is off to Germany and will be taking this hobby’ car round the Ring for a couple of laps. I hope the other drivers are wearing shades!

Dave done his homework before buying this car and found that it started its life belonging to Derek Warwick, one of our Formula 1 drivers at the same time as a certain Mr. Mansell.

Anyway, a very clean car but the usual age-related deeper scratches, mostly on the roof and bonnet. There were lots actually and Dave is soon going to have bits and bobs re-sprayed. Overall, a very pleasing car to work on.

I don’t really have the time to do a full itemised product and technique report on this one but I hope others get a feel for the possibilities.
Machining was carried out using the Silverline orange rotary and I’m quite liking it, considering the minimal outlay.

Sorry for the quality of some of the photos. I was having difficulty getting good images using the Brinkmann dual xenon torch and placed much reliance on the halogens instead.

BONNET
This was very hazy. The hazing was taken care of with Menzerna 106FA, but some more stubborn scratching was polished with Menz IP 3.02. It was nice to see the flake and colour coming back. Brinkmann used here. Before image shows big-time blurring but the after shot shows some sharper resolution.

Again, Menz 3.02 used here on Megs polishing pad.

THE REST OF THE CAR

Mostly corrected with 106FA and one hit although the doors on the passenger side side were corrected with two hits of 3.02 IP.

NIGHT SHOTS

Some blurring here because the camera was having some difficulty focusing on a black car in the night light, but I thought the finish looked particularly wet in these:

SUNNY SHOTS

I returned the next evening to get some pics in brighter light:

The post-polishing cleansing was by HD Cleanse and the final protection was Glasur, my new purchase. I have to say this goes on like a dream with German applicator and buffs over very nicely indeed. I like it already.
All interior and exterior glass cleansed using HD Cleanse.

Wheels cleansed with HD and sealed with two coats of JEFFS Acrylic Jett from Polished Bliss.

Sorry for all the photos, but I got to work in a great garage and had the lights set up most of the time so I thought ‘what the heck’!

I’d like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to Dave for his hospitality and to Mrs. Dempsey for letting me use the toilet so often.
Thanks,
JOHN

Wow, another great detail - quality write up too! Good grief though... the night shots reminds me that winter is nearly upon us... :crying:
