Independent specialist in Essex?

Just had a quote from the stealership for some work needs doing on my a6. The horror!

Anyone know any independent specialists you can vouch for, in Essex. Either around Basildon, or Chelmsford/Colchester area? Even up into edges of Suffolk would be useful.

Thanks for any help.
 
I can re-iterate with Stringster, they are both very good.

Peter Breading was a Audi MasterTech . . He is very consciencious and does a great job (well he did for me).
As is german engineering services. They are opposite Alpha Motorcycles on the Southend Road ( old A13 ). They done a cambelt change etc on a friends passat tdi, and he was pleased with their prices and quality of work.

I dont think you'd go far wrong with either.

Having said that, Peter Breading have just phoned me back with even better prices, and clearly very knowledgable even over the phone.

Now I just have to weigh up whether the convenience of John Austin on my doorstep is worth a few bob saving over Peter Breading.

Hmmm.

Funny enough I'll be up that way tomorrow as well as there is an air-con specialist around the corner from Peter's.
 
All sorted. Very friendly people, and only too happy to explain what work they've carried out.

There were 3 jobs needed doing on the car, and I'd already had a quote from Chelmsford Audi main dealer.

Replace oil pump, strainer, O ring and sump gasket: Audi quote £721.30
Replace O/S track rod end: Audi quote £213.85
Replace rocker cover gasket & VVT pump gasket: Audi quote £443.99

Total £1379.14

Peter Breading completed all above work, except for the VVT pump gasket which they reckoned was fine and wasn't actually showing any symptoms of a problem. The mechanic showed me the old track rod end and oil pump they'd removed, and explained what the actual problems were. They also replaced the oil filter and changed the oil. He recommended Forte Flush when the oil is changed for service, as it was a bit claggy.

And replaced the sump plug where it was sweating a bit.

Total bill £367.99 :salute:

As you can imagine, I am ****** delirious with that. Would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody.
