I remember years ago that people said you shouldn't wax a new car for 6 weeks as the paint needs time to fully cure and harden.

Is this still recommended?

No, all new cars come with fully cured factory finishes, the only time this is an issue is if repair work is done and not fully baked before the car is handed back; in these cases full degassing and curing can take up to sixty days, and in this period protective coatings containing silicones should not be applied, as they can block the pores in the paint, thus preventing the curing process from taking place (the paint then remains relatively soft). Or so my paint man tells me. :)
