Took the plunge and bought a porter cable from autopia the other week....had a go with it saturday for the first time. Was a bit wary of marking the paint so took it steady, but have to say very impressed with the results! Removed most of the various defects (swirls, minor scratches etc) from the paint. Method used:

1. Rinsed with Karcher and washed with two bucket method using Poorboys Super Slick and Suds. Wheels cleaned using Meg's Wheel Brightner diluted 5:1
2. Dried using Poorboys Waffle Weave Towel. (Didnt clay as this was done the other week)
3. SSR2 using SFX2 pad
4. SSR1 using SFX2 pad
5. Clearkote Vanilla Moose Glaze using SFX3 pad and removed using buffing bonnet
6. P21S Carnauba Wax applied by hand and removed using buffing bonnet.
7. Tyres dresssed using Poorboys Bold n Bright
8. Glass cleaned using AG Glass Polish
9. Trim blackened using Megs NXT Tech Protectant.

And then it rained, literally after I'd put the hose away!

Any pointers on how to improve, please let me know....all comments appreciated!

Car looks spot on, shame about the british weather but at least the car is clean. For the alloys I would recommend megs wheel brightner they do work a treat but the stuff your using is top class mate.

Wheel brightener isnt good to use all the time, once they're clean and protected you should only ever need normal shampoo and water or a non-acidic Tyre & Gel cleaner such as Menzerna 7.5 :)

Car looks great mate, perhaps you will need Menzerna IP to take out any defects left in the paint :)

Thanks...Megs Wheel Brightner is what I used, although diluted down to a ratio of about 5:1. Its good stuff!

Clark, heard not to use the Wheel Brightner as it can dull the wheels?

Might try some IP, should I be using the SFX1 pad with this? I didnt want to use it on the car with it being my first time as I was worried it might damage the paint. Is the IP more harsh than the SSR 2 I currently have?

Could you recommend a glaze to use with the PC? I currently have the Clearkote Vanilla Hand Glaze, but got quite a bit of machine fling once I got the machine up to speed.

You shouldnt be getting any sling at all, how much product were you using and @ what speed?

If you insist on using Wheel Brightener then dilute it to something like 10:1 (Water:WB) so that its safer..

IP on a cutting pad is generally what you need to get any real success at removing swirls and cob-webbing from tough VAG paint, dont be scared if the PC, you really have to be pretty brainless to cause any damage with it!

Best Glaze in my opinion is the Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze :)

I started by putting the 'X' on the pad, machine on slow speed (1/2) to spread the product out, then increased it to 4/5 and gave a couple of passes. I then started putting the glaze on the car with a Megs pad and working it in with the PC.

I just used the WB to get the wheels clean, going to give them a polish and wax this weekend so that they will just need a wash with shampoo and water.

Might try the cutting pad too then, in my research into using the PC I read that the cutting pad should only be used for extreme cases...

Might have to order some Menzerna products....god this car cleaning lark aint cheap! :)

Thanks Clark...looks like the masking tape is back out at the weekend again!:rockwoot:
