Just been out in the car and while I was out I called in to a petrol station to fill up. When I got out I noticed a load of purple and white stuff on the rear quarter and round the filler flap. This stood out a bit as I had just washed he car this afternoon too.
On closer inspection though it seems the 'white stuff' is crushed glass and no doubt the purple stuff is the current favourite alcopop of the local chavs. Therewere some young uns outside earlier but I thought nothing of it and didn't look out. There are a fair few scratches some of which cut right through to the metal. I'm well and truly fed up like.

Anyway, getting back to the point. To my untrained eye it looks like I'm going to need the whole rear quarter respraying to put it right. Does anyone have any idea what a stealer is likely to charge for respraying a rear quarter on an 04 A4 Avant..???

I need a drink or 3 now..!!

I think your best bet is to go direct to a paintshop. All the audi dealers I know of don't do their own bodywork - it is subcontracted out. So if I were you find out who your local dealer uses and then approach them directly.

Cheers Damian, I've been talking to them this week. I decided to get an insurance quote to have a few other unfortunate scratches/marks sorted at the same time. Because its not an authorised repairer for my insurance company they have asked me to get 2 quotes.

As both Newcastle and Tyneside Audi use them, I'm hoping that I can avoid the need to get another quote as I'd just have visited another Audi dealer anyway. I have to say they have been spot on and have even been speaking to the insurance directly to sort this for me.

We'll see how it goes but the quote came in at £997 for the rear quarter, bottom of one door, top of another and the tailgate which I thought was not bad.

Bejesus that's some quote. long story cut short, i ran over a plank off a pallet which nailed itself to my rear tyre. by the time i'd managed to stop i needed the rear wheelarch and back bumper painting.

the local paintshop who is the recommended painter for the Jowett owners club charged me £40 per panel, top notch job and undetectable to my over-critical eye

If its over my £200 excess I dont really mind how far over it is. lol

Don't go to a dealers authorised bodyshop, they are about 2-3 times more expensive than a good normal bodyshop.
Had them quote me on a small dent in the rear wheelarch on the wifes Avant and they wanted £680 +VAT
Got it done at a local bodyshop recommended by the VAG specialist I use for £266+VAT and they did a superb job.
£200 excess yes, but you need to add on the NCB you'll lose. Even if it's protected your premium will rise if you make a claim.
I worked out that the job would have to be £600+ before it's worthwhile going the insurance route, but obviously this depends on the type of policy.
My wifes A3 got hit by a van when parked outside our house, and obviously just drove off. She had NCB protection but her premium rose by 30% the following year + the excess she had to pay for the damage. Most companies are now asking "would you still have your NCB if it wasn't protected?"
We found onecompany that didn't ask, so we went with them and actually got it down below what it was before the prang.

NCB is going to be ok as its protected but I know the premium will rise. The body shop quoted a couple of hundred pounds per panel but as I would want the other area's done at some point I would have to pay. As there is a total of 4 panels wanting work I think it has to be worthwhile going down the insurance route.

Get a Gun.

Seriously though, you are probably looking at around £550 mark. I'm not sure that the whole quarter gets sprayed anyway. The damage gets treated, primed, then sprayed and lacquered I think. Mines is just back after two weeks away having a couple of dents and a good bit of scraping on rear wheel arch. This is a ball park figure and that's from a Glasgow repairer tied to the insurance companies. So if you went to a 'free' bodyshop not attached to any dealer then you may pay a good bit less mate. Keep us posted.

Naw, get a gun.

Sinny, I had mine down to colbrook and burgess about the corrosion under the wheel arch. It hopefully will get done on the warrenty but if not he quoted £300 per wing. Ouch!!
