my Ice Silver S3 Detail including Autofinesse triple AIO & Collinite 476S Review

So today i set about doing a "full" detail on my S3. In fairness to start with the car wasn't that dirty as i washed it last week and it has has a few coats of Autoglym extra gloss protection over the last few months too but it wasn't giving me any wow factor after application, very good at protecting but thats about it!

Started with the usual wash with AG shampoo then dried off with a micro fibre drying towel.

I then did the touch test on each panel and found the bottoms of the doors and wheel arches needed a clay, i used the megs quick clay kit.

Then moved onto polishing. Having used SRP for the last god knows how many years I decided to order some of the auto finesse triple all in one, a very similar product to SRP but much easier to use and a lot less dusty i did the whole car using a micro fibre using about 3-5 small pea sized blobs per panel as a little goes a long way! (although a pad would of been easier) applying light pressure all over and letting it dry to a haze then buff off using another clean micro fibre.

I then set about waxing, this is the first time i have used wax and in fairness i was a little sceptical about using the collinite 476S and nearly sent it back as i was convinced i needed a sealant (poor boys EXP) after reading the polished bliss guide but i went ahead anyway and used it, the results surprised me.

Everyone knows Audi paint is hard to get a decent shine from, especially silver but i reckon I've managed to pull it off. The collinite is really easy to apply, i used a megs foam applicator putting it on thin and even and left it for literally a couple of minutes before buffing off, leave it for too long and its a bugger to remove, do a quick test with your finger if its not oily get it buffed off!!

Wheels i used the valet pro bilberry wheel cleaner (although i need some iron X) and then quickly sealed with AG EGP until i order some poor boys sealant!

Tyres - i can highly recommend the megs high gloss endurance tyre gel put it on thinly with a sponge/foam applicator and it won't throw any up the arches!!

Anyway enough talk heres the pics, enjoy

Thanks Sandra, that took about 6 hours all in, however i ran out of time to add some "back to black" gel on the grill and plastic trim and polish up the exhaust tips using auto-sol, ill do that tomorrow

If i got a DA i wouldn't use triple as supposedly its not designed for DA or rotary polishers, but still i do fancy one, i could potentially start up something mobile on the side with one as it saves time lol!

Thats it Dave have to buy on condition not colour!

One thing I will add is normally Waxs do sod all on silver & white your probably better with a sealant like Zaino or Werkstatt for refections and wetness! But think your proving us wrong lol!

Thats the one!! Yeah i read the werkstatt kit was the one to get, but i emailed clean your car when i was going to send the wax back & he said on a personal level he thought the collinite was great for silver, so i bit the bullet and gave it a go! The tub will certainly last a while! haha

Very nice yea the valet pro bilberry wheel cleaner don't really tackle baked on brake dust properly like a dedicated iron remover like IronX or I found Autofinesse Iron remover a treat to use as well, this is as good a job as IronX and is slightly cheaper to buy in bulk compared to IronX

I used to have a silver S3 they are quite a rare sight and look soooo good when polished.

Machined mine last weekend and used the Collinite it really gives superb depth.

I was hoping to get a wash and a top up of wax done this weekend, if i can get a break in the weather! Yeah I've not seen many S3's in silver, I'm going to have my wheels done in a darker colour soon too so hopefully it will look even better afterwards!

Your RS3 looks immaculate, my next car i hope!

I moved over to Collinite 476S a few years ago and it's all I'll use now, and always apply by hand. Polish wise - Menzerna 203S is great with a power mop.

There isn't that much damage, its just scuffed, but I'm not having a smart repair done, I've heard and read they don't last and fade over time, especially if the car is heavily detailed on a regular basis!! Im just gutted that it happens after i spend so much time, effort and money on getting it looking that ^^ good

    Gutted for you !!

At least the other party is paying up and you'll avoid being penalised at next renewal by insurance.

    Unfortunate about the car mate.

What a job you did on the car though, really does look stunning! There is nothing better then putting the effort in and really seeing the result. Got some new stuff on the way myself so weather permitting I'm going to give my car it's spring detail this weekend.

P.s Dave you don't go to the total fitness gym in prenton? There's always a FL silver S3 outside when I'm there just thought it might of been you as you live up this way.

I wish I could say I went to the gym!! Haha no it's not me, I'm moving to Heswall soon though so you might see me around the top end of the Wirral abit more! I've not seen another silver S3 since I bought mine I don't think! We will have to meet up & get some pics of ours or something, I wouldn't mind seeing how a stage 1 drives compared to stock too!!

Thanks for the comments, she will be back to former glory tomorrow evening! Full wheel refurb & colour change is next along with two new tyres then sort out the drivers seat leather as it's getting abit worn

Haha well it was worth an ask! Oh are you, very nice man. Couple of my mates live in lower Heswall, cracking place to live I think. I've only seen the one silver one that's always in the total fitness carpark. Silver seems to be a really rare colour that's why I thought it may have been you.

Yeah i'm up for a meet up, stage 1 really makes the world of difference in the way it drives. Got a couple of leather treatments I've tried myself which i'd happily share with you if you wanted.

Nice, bet you can't wait. There is nothing worse than what happened. I need a refurb too, been thinking of going the The Wheel Specialist based in Ellesmere Port as it's right by my work. Where you going to be getting yours done?

Few more pics after todays clean, I used the Gliptone leather cleaner and conditioner to get the buckets looking as they should, highly recommended as the cleaner also fills any small cracks and wear marks

I Used TRIX on the wheels after a weak bilberry wash, my god it stinks, literally and wherever you keep it seems to stink of it not sure I'm a fan due to it but it cleans really, really well! Haven't tried it on the paint work yet..

    Exhaust tips polished with Autosol

Tyres dressed with two thin coats of megs endurance gel - the last application lasted about 3 weeks so its not too bad and you literally only need 3 pea sized drops for each coat on each tyre, so the bottle will last ages. I use a small kitchen style sponge (not on the rough side obviously) saves buying a £6 applicator, works a treat!

Also bought myself some chemical guys synthetic quick detailer as i ran out of megs, it smells amazing (like calpol, brings back memories!) and works really well, ill let the pics do the talking, enjoy!

For anyone who's interested, two and a half months down the line after doing this after a wash the paintwork still looks near enough as good as it did then, that collinite is seriously good protection!
