my B5 has its 60k service due in april, so cambelt and waterpump time it is.
obviously i want her to be worked on by someone that knws audi's, but i refuse to pay audi prices. so does anyone have any recomdations for audi specialists in the woking/guildford area?

and has anyone got an idea of what ill be paying for the service?

cheers in advance

Easytease,

I had my 60k service in january,

Including cambelt / water pump etc etc it set me back the best part of £350 at a Seat dealers I know in kent.

Audi wanted close to £500 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif

Wheelbase in Hersham (near Walton-on-Thames) are very good, but still quite steep labour, at something like 65+VAT an hour.

I use AHAutos on Slyfield in Guildford - 01483 303942.

Got my pump, belt, tensioner done there about 3 years ago, I think cost was something like 330, but expect inflation!

Wheelbase are indeed £63.50 + VAT per hour (he says looking at a recent invoice). They also tend to have a bit of a waiting list - currently a month or so if you want a courtesy car. As bk1 says, they seem to be pretty good though.

you rekon audi will only cost about £500 then? if its that 'cheap', bearing in mind i was expecting a £800 bill! then i might go to audi. not guildford branch as they have never been helpful in there /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

£500 was what i was quoted after ringing around several dealers and playing them off against one another.

still not exactly fantastic though.

Does it need to be an Audi specialist, or do you have a local independent with a good reputation? If not, we have one here in Bexleyheath, called Sanspeed. They do all my servicing now & I've been delighted with everything they've done. Last year, they did the cambelt.

My bill last year was pretty high, cos I had a variety of things done, but if I remember correctly, the cambelt part of it came to just under £300 (this for a V6). Their labour charge is £45 p/h.

Depending where in Surrey you are, Bexleyheath may be too much of a schlep for you, but they might be worth considering. Here's their contact details: Sanspeed

it doesnt have to be an audi specialist. the car, up untill now, has a full audi service history, so im kind of tempted to go to an audi dealer (possibly the camberley one as the reception i recieved at the guildford one was appauling).

i was considering taking it to frields in woking (they've won the 'best indepentant of the year' a couple of years ago) but i dunno. its a tough decision...

The Camberley one is pretty good now it's moved by all accounts, their parts dept actually do what they say, and as a whole people seem to call you back when they say which I can't say for reading or slough Audi. I'm getting my car taken to Fontain in Iver on monday as they seem to have a good reputation as an Audi specalist - might be worth a call?

I've had a lot of dealings with Fontain. I bought my first A4 from them, under warranty. They fitted the cruise control to my current A4, & did some diagnostic stuff on it as well, FOC. They are a top-class company IMHO.

The only reason I don't use them for routine servicing is the schlep round the M25. As I said earlier, Sanspeed are local, & by local, I mean five minutes walk from the house!. If and when I rustle up enough dosh to swap my 2.8Q Tiptronic B5 for a 3.0Q Tiptronic B6, i will do my damndest to buy it from Fontain.

If you think about it, you're spoilt for choice. What I would say is, though, for a 99 model, there's no percentage left in using an franchised Audi dealer. Their labour rates (and, frankly, the lack of know-how and customer care, despite their best efforts to dress it up) make it a no-decision decision.

got my quote back from audi camberley...

just waiting for fontain to get back to me now. i filled out the form on their website but nothing, anyone got a direct e-mail address for em?

I'd give fontain a call, every time I've called them over the past two weeks they've answered the phone and answered my questions straight away. I took my car in today and they seem like a top bunch of guys - I just wait to see the bill and the quality of work to be honest. There are also prices on there website to give you an idea (go to service and select car etc.)

Try www.jpgarage.co.uk
VAG specialists based in Hampton Court, Surrey.

A friend of mine highly recommends them and has been using them for years. Apparently very reasonable.

Give them a try...Let me know how you get on with a quote.
