Just wondering what people use to clean their alloys

My Friend has suggested this stuff called wonder wheels (you can get it from halfords)

Does anyone on here use this or know of other products that are good.

Answers on a postcard please

Wonder wheels is good but a little harsh to your calipers if they are painted and don't let it dry on the rims as it stains and can be a bit hard to get off, I now use fairy power spray /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif

i find that just washing them regular and a quick polish with some turtle wax is the way. dont like alloy wheel cleaners due to the acid.

beware....fairy liquid will have the paint off your wheels in no time....ive used wonderwheels, its o.k.... but i just use the left over car shampoo from the body wash with a baby bottle cleaning brush...its bends and can get right into the dish behind the spokes....

I use muc-off , good stuff, but takes some preperation with cleaning, then drying, the applying the silicon barrier. But once all treated, makes very easy to clean the next time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

Same here! If you keep on top of it then the wheels should clean up with just shampoo.

For the more stuborn stains, I've used Meguires Hot Wheels and it has worked a treat!

Morning, I use Wynns Alloy Cleaner only £3.99 for a ltr and it does a good job, also is alkaline so is not harsh on the wheels. Tested it against Wonder Wheels and they came out about the same. Might try Muc Off at some point though.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think i'll give either Wynns of meguires a go.

I'd guess the trick is to spend quite a while doing them once as that will save me some time when i do them again.

I've use Autoglym wheel cleaner and it is very good. Also just started using their Wheel seal, this is used after you clean the wheels and puts a protective coating on the alloy. This stuff makes it really easy to remove brake dust, can just be wiped off with a wet cloth plus it also makes the wheels really shine.

Like everything else in this world, prevention is better than cure, so I guess the answer is to wash 'em regularly & never let the cack build up in the first place.

Was using Wonder Wheels until I had two refurbed by a specialist. He has a TT with 19" RS4 reps and says the best thing is just to use car shampoo every week or every other, the former obviously in the winter. Says Wonder Wheels is the best of the lot but the caid, no matter how short it is on the wheel takes the lustre from the lacquer.

Pain in the backside I know to clean them so often, but thats what the experts say.

I'd agree with bbg52. I never put anything on the alloys I'd not put on the car paintwork. Therefore wash them with shampoo regularly and wax with the wax I use on the car.

Wonder Wheels is good for really cacked up wheels - I'll use it if I am out and about for a few weeks and can't clean properly.....

Anyone tried the wheelwax from Meguirs? Any good?

IIRC, RS4s are fairly straightforward six-spoke designs, though aren't they, without too many intricacies? So I guess they'll clean up pretty darned good, too.
