Metal dust caps stuck on...any ideas?????

A couple of weeks ago I bought some ally dust caps for my wheels. 2 of them were pinched within a week. The front 2 were left (unfortunately) well now they wont unscrew.
Spent the weekend with a can of unilease butbeacuse the rubber valve stem spins they wont undo.
As I dont know the inner workings of a tyre I dont know what happens if I just keep turning it, will the rubber stem eventually break, is there any ways/tricks I can use to get them off.

All contributions greatfully received

Go to a tyre place and get them to remove them, if they get them off they won't charge you and if they feck the valves they will replace them cheap

2 pairs of pliers, 1 to hold the stem, the other to turn the cap.
If you don`t check your pressures on a regular basis your better off using plastic caps!

I doubt they seized on in a couple of weeks, or did you just do them up too tight ?

The "salt" is alluminiunm oxide or rust if you prefer, you really should check your tyre pressures at least once a week

i've been driving without dust caps for the last few weeks. Can't be bothered to undo them at pump - lazy!

I will be getting new wheels soon but what damage would I do in the long term if i did this? Is it just dirt getting in there?

I have the same problem, tried two pairs of pliers, and they still won't budge!

Mickc, did you find a way of getting them off at all?

I had a similar problem a few months back and poured some warm water over it. Worked fine for me.

Junior hacksaw accross the top edge then get a large flat driver in and prise the cut open and they'll pop off.

Spuddie this must be one late reply, hope your still around but I have not been able to get near a pc for a while..........
Before the site went down someone suggested grinding them off with a dremmel. Went and bought one and ground a flat along the cap until the thread of the stem started to show, got me pliers out, gave it a twist and off it came.
Plastic ones on now, know their only small but they look .

Hi Mate

Yeah mine are still stuck on there, didn't wanna spend 40 getting the tyres revalved so stuck with them (pardon the pun).

So you just cut off the tops, and they easily twisted off? Think my mate has a dremel, so I'll borrow it off him and give it a go!

I just re-read your post, you mean cut downwards from top to bottom to expose the stem, as this loosens those damn covers, so they slip straight off!

Get what you mean, thanks for the advice, I'm on the case with a dremel!

Considering how many people appear to have problems with these metal valve caps, can anyone tell me what is the point of them?
