Thread: The Grey/Black section in the rear bumper of my 2001 S3

After giving my car a good winter clean ive noticed the trim section in the bumper is stained/ marked. It has like water stain marks running down it.
I tried some megs trim detailer and it made the area shiny but didnt realy get rid of the marks...
Is there something else i can use??

some pics would be a great help but I think i know what you mean....if you have something like Lime Prime or Super Resin Polish they should remove it but may give it too much of a shine as its supposed to be a sort of satin effect....also if you have some clay give it a quick claying, this may help but on a quick DIY note use some white vinegar if it is just water marks as the acitic acid will shift it no probs....

If it's the textured plastic trim, I wouldn't use a polish-type product on it.

A good clean should sort it out whether it's textured or otherwise ; Auto Finesse Citrus Power Auto Finesse Citrus Power | Auto Finesse Car Care & Detailing Products sprayed on, agitate with a detailing brush then rinse.

Once it's clean and dry, apply a dressing.

John the lower part of the S3 bumpers arent textured...its the smooth part I think the OP is referring to....like the grey area on the one below....

Right mate if its textured then as John says leave out a polish....for plastics that are stained I have found that Einzett Intensive Plastic is the gaffer....not only that its cheap as chips mate as well....

The 8L S3 panel is painted and smooth... same finish as the lower door trims and the lower surround on the front bumper...

i find super resin polish works well. because its hardly abrasive at all, but more of a cleansing polish it cleans really well and doesnt make it shiny and glossy

The streaky marks will be caused by water reacting with old product.

What you'll need to do is intensively clean the area and remove any old product residue whilst also removing the stains.

I'd use a 50:50 dilution of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) for this ReAgent Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) | ReAgent Car Care & Detailing Products

Spray it onto a microfibre towel and work it thoroughly into the area; this'll strip the old product residue. We often do the same with the likes of new Minis; the wheelarches can be stained in the same way.

IPA also makes a good glass cleaner and is great for cleaning wiper blades too.
