Audi Specialist - North London

What is it u need doing Mike? I use Whetstone Audi in North London.....IMO they are ok i cant really compare cause i aint been to any others but i have been treated adequately nothing special. Their service has been fine no problems really.

C J, it's actually after a visit to Whetstone Audi that i'm looking for cheaper Audi specialist. Last week i went there for a 50k service & mot.
service cost £316 but additional work to pass the mot (replace cv boot & brake flexi pipes) cost an extra £397, making my total bill £713.
While inspecting my car they found the following:
rear pads worn: £160
rear diff seaf slightly leaking: £319
rear prop shaft gearbox seal slightly leaking: £259
heated mirrors not heating: £103

Although like you i'm happy with their service, i need to find more econmical option...

Damn yeah thats a hell of a sting in the wallet Mike! Listen mate dealer prices all over London are going to be roughly the same i can give you the number of a guy who i use but he lives in Slough i work near Heathrow so it aint too bad when im going from work. He does alot of private jobs and is qualified and active Audi master tech i think as hes been doing it for years. If your interested let me know and i will pm you his number mate /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi CJ, would appreciate if you could pm me that number. I'ts a shame AMD are so for from here, I was up there last weekend for a remap & they quoted me £320 inc for the diff seal & rear pads (£479 from Audi).

I seem to deal with someone different each time at whetstone, problem is the service personel don't realy understand & explain what needs doing but instead just read off the mechanics report. Thats one thing that impressed me about AMD, whoever i spoke to seemed to have a complete understanding & cared about their work.

There is an Audi specialist in Waltham Cross in Herts. I know it's not North London but I purchased my OVER priced car from Fontain and had it seviced at Whetstone Audi for a small fortune (neither establishments i wish to use again although Whetstone Audi were perfectly good if a little snobby).

I use someone in Dorset (Advanced Autos who are excellent) but Waltham Cross is J25 for the M25 and only 15mins drive from Barnet or 20mins from Whetsone.

sorry but i dont know of any audi specialists, do it myself. but just posting to keep the north London posts up lol. whetstone audi is 2 minutes away from me, was actually there yesterday. :)

Garage Name: Expert Volkswagen Audi
Telephone: 01992 630333

Just cut and paste this from a yellow pages type website.

An Audi owner at work recommended them. Hope this helps.

Erm, stupid question, but if it was over-priced, why did you buy it?

Because I am famous for buying cars with my heart and not head. Call me stupid but thankfully there are others out there as stupid as me.

I knew it was overpriced but managed to blank that fact out of my head when signing the dotted line. Maybe coz the colour, leather, spec and condition were perfect for me.

Mind you I did manage to haggle it down so that own me over psychologically.

When I say over priced I reckon it was maybe a £1000 over the odds so thats not too bad.

But it makes you sick when you see a new car with lower mileage and TV/Sat Nav and just about everything else Audi could throw at it for £2000 less than I paid just 9 months later.

Sorry, in that last sentence it was suppose to read "newer" not "new". And while I'm at it "won" and not "own"!!

Sorry, my posting didn't quite read right. The other car came up just nine months after I bought mine (took me 1 month to find my car). I paid £12K for my 99V 2.8Q tip with 49k and nine months later I saw a 00W 2.8Q tip with TV/Sat for £10,995 and only 34k on the clock. Made me sick (dark blue with cram leather as well, which is up there with Silver/Black and Black/mushroom)

You probably know the place Jeff, it was not far from Fontain in Bucks somewhere. Some guy who used to part own Fontain started up on his own and seems to be undercutting all the prices.

No, I don't know it. I only know Fontain from my dealings on the 1.8 they sold me, and that was four years ago.

You and I must have virtually identical cars. Mine's a 99-T as well, in silver with blue leather. I got it in May 03, when it was just on 3 years old, but the mileage was higher than yours (about 54K IIIRC). It was actually in pretty ropey nick & I had no end of problems with it in the first two months. Even though it was covered by an Audi approved used warranty, I had to give the supplying dealer hell over the lack of pre-sale preparation. Eventually, I got it sorted, and have continued with my own policy of incremental improvements while I've had it.

It's now on 69K miles, but is a massively better car than it was when I got it.

By the way, do you get a funny juddering noise when you pull out of a junction from a standstill on full lock?

I don't get a judder but I do get a ratchetty noise from the steering column.

The only problems I've had so far are that the engine sometimes floods and wont start on first attempt and a bouncing idle.

Other than that its been ok. I'm up to 65k now and about to get the cambelt done.

Wouldn't mind tiptronic steering wheel controls but it looks like its a £500 retrofit project and not worth the hassle. Might fit cruise control though.

I'll PM you on THAT topic (later this evening), to save all the other guys from reading it all over again.
