    New Audi RS6

Haven't posted one in here for a while, but a quick trip to www.evo.co.uk gave me a bit of inspiration:

So what do we reckon? I'm a fan, but I think the limit has been reached in the Audi/BMW/Mercedes horsepower war. There cannot be any good reason why cars should have over 580-600bhp on the road. It would be better at 400bhp but weigh 200kg less; I think weight will be the new performance improvement headline for the next few years, especially as it goes hand in hand with better fuel economy and lower emissions.

Nice link. But last sentence of the same article sums it up nicely: "The problem is, how fast does a wardrobe really have to travel?"

Never a truer word, it is rather a wardrobe, the older RS6 avant was well just whats the point, again with this.

Whats the point in any car that will go above 70? The fact the car seemingly has no point is what makes it cool in my opinion! Being so devastatingly fast and able to carry a wardrobe makes it so awesome I think.

Thats been exactly my feelings for ages, if the max speed limit is 70mph then why make a 210mph car, if no car is actually allowed to go faster, simple answer, so the goverment can make billions of fines etc etc

If they really wanted to cut emissions as much as they need to to make a real difference to the earth etc then they would cut all these big engined cars completely, make all cars limited etc etc, but alas.

It might be quick but whats point of having an estate so quick given it'll be driven by a yummy mummy to school & shopping, lmao, its true aswell

& how many estates have you fitted a wardrobe into, lol

    Seriously uncool.

Typical Audi generic uber-barge with loads of power...and doesn't even look as 'different' as the last version.

Not cool in the slightest for me.
So cool in fact, that I can't even be bothered taking Audi up on their offer of a test drive...it's just a bit of a pointless car in my mind.

errr.... can I go to the test drive posing as you pleeeeeeese?

For me its just about saying I have a V10 twin turbo...... estate.

I know its completly pointless, but what is the point in owning any car which goes more than 70mph and cost more than a few grand?

A 'Cool' car in my opinion, there's something about the words 'RS6' that sounds good when one talks about it. Does it really matter wether it goes round corners or not? I'm sure 99% of friends or family who know anything about cars will be impressed if you told them you had an RS6, that makes it pretty cool, unless your friend happens to be EssThree of course.

Does it come with a towbar??

I just picture a yummy mummy with 1 kid in the back doing a 1000 point turn, lol

Look they're good cars but it really is just pointless & a way for Audi to say my dick is bigger than BMW's etc, why dont the concentrate there engineering on producing the mostly bought cars with serious improvements in emissions, economy, technology, etc, I recognise the technology they play with in the big cars does eventually filter down but for me I find Audi a tad slower than most at integrating technology into there cars

Not I'm a geek but how many of us 8P owners are fedup with the handbrake right by the poxy armrest, a nice parking switch would of been better, lmao

Funny you should mention that - they're not an option on the RS6 because, apparently, Audi were worried about gearbox oil temperatures should you be towing something large and heavy! I kid you not - EVO reported this on their long-termer:

Huh, but we're talking about what a V10 is it, I mean if that engine/gearbox cant take towing then what can, I have an A3 TDI & that has towbar options so howz that figure exactly??? Its not like you'll be towing a caravan on the RS6 at the high speeds it is capable of, its becoming very american huh as they look at every possible angle to not get sued lol

Never said I would, but given its a huge station wagon, you'd expect it to have the capability & trust me I'm not alone in the world who thinks urm can I fit a bike towbar bracket, we dont all tow caravans, lol

Some countries actually have a sensible attitude towards speed

I was back in the UK this weekend...10 minutes of the "fast-lane queue" and I was ready for murder

RS6? Love it, personally. 200 mph family wagon, just my sorta thing. And my missus reckons it would suit me

I'm gonna disagree with most of you here and say SUB ZERO.

    My reasons for doing so:

I've said it many many times here before, it's not so much how fast the car is it's what it says to you. I looked at the RS6 in person in my local dealer. I was just blown away by it.

The size, arches, wheels, hubs and brakes, inside, lines, lights, grilles.....lol everything. The inside is like a stately home lol. The whole package kept me looking and looking. Sometimes just taking it all in made me stand and stare for minutes at a time!

Its not so much the power of the car that makes me like it but what the RS badge says (which brings the above...arches etc). The time, effort, and research that went into making it. Ceramic brakes as an option ffs lol.

Audi always have done things differently and "that" is one of the main reasons why i own one, i'm sick of the stereotypical design of cars these days, sharp lines angles which don't look right, small wheels, lack of engine choice and power to match. This for me was a breath of fresh air and while i love all RS models even the RS2, they to me seem to be improving them each time they make one.

Exclusivity to a certain degree. I know the S3 is a much much more popular car, but around where i live there is only one other one. I love that fact. I've seen 1....only 1 RS6 on the road ever. Since they've made this and the previous model. Having something which is rare gives it more appeal to me.

The fact is has 572Hp and a twin turbo V10 engine is something of a masterpiece if you ask me. Why stand there and slate it when it really has nothing to slate. Yes its an estate, but YES it is available in the SALOON model also. What is with people these days, do you all have to be so "anit-wardrobe"??? LOL.

Is it not funny that this car will put most Ferarri's (don't like them) to shame?? I'd personally find it histerical if i was to come up against one (or most other cars) on a track and wave goodbye as it entered my rear view mirror! In an ESTATE car PMSL what fun! Dog rumbling about in the rear too.

More seriously though i bow down to Audi designers and the RS team for making such an animal and making it look relatively tame, to the trained eye the badge says it all.

Thinking outside the wardrobe (excuse the punn) for the second run of the RS6 Audi to me couldn't be more on the ball. I like to be different which is why i like the car.

    G

In my opinion, an RS2/4/6 has to be an Avant model! It was the original Audi RS2 Avant that spawned these modern RS models, and what made it special apart from the power and brakes etc. was that it was a fast estate.

The RS2 was only an Estate because PORSCHE said it had to be, no other reason. And thats why there was never a saloon/coupe version.
It was a condition laid down by PORSCHE when they agreed to help develop the RS2 to ensure PORSCHE sales were unaffected by a bonkers AUDI with the PORSCHE bits all over it.
The fear was that an RS2 saloon/coupe would steal potential porker customers, but that thse in the market for a`sports car`wouldnt want a load lugger.
It was never clever leftfield thinking by AUDI to make something different and `cool`.
IIRC all subsequent RSs have been available as saloon and estates versions.

Yes the RS6 Estate is cool. (as is the RS2)
But IMO the RS6 Saloon is cool too, but looks better, and is lighter, and according to the motoring press drives a bit better. So because of this it pips the Estate in the cool race.
    IMO of course.
Which means p!ss all realy cos I dont have a spare 70K!

I see an RS6 wagon every day on my way to work - 99% of the time it's absolutely filthy now that's cool

In my opinion they never topped the original RS2...just love them

Also my opinion, a superfast family wagon (saloon or estate, no matter) will ALWAYS be much much cooler than a noisy, penis-shaped supercar - I'd love a Lambo, just to own and experience it, but I wouldn't want to be seen in it

Guess the film quote : "You damn right it's limited. No cup holder, no back seat. Just a shiny dick with two chairs in it. I guess we the balls just draggin' the **** along"
Still loving the 130i like the sideways dirtbag I am

They're nice motors, but certainly not sub zero. Too big to make any practical use of the power, and although it's utterly amazing from 70 onwards in a straight line, it's not the kind of car that gives you confidence on a back road. It a very remote drive, no feeling back through the wheels or pedals. Not something I'd consider buying and not as quick as the RS4 for A to B driving.

If Audi knew that it was too big (supposedly) to make any use of the power then why make it? Why even stick the RS badge to something if as you say it's quick from 70 onwards but in a straight line. Lol...You are entitled to your opinion as we all are here, but sorry dude i totally disagree here!

The things I would consider doing to own one of these are illegal in some USA states, and considered tabboo in the rest.
All about an estate, all about it!
Looks not much different to a 'normal' avant, and would be endless hours of fun burning off so-called sports cars!

Audi aren't daft, they know they can put an RS badge on a car and some people will be suckered in blind. I wasn't convinced by it and I was happy to hand the keys back. 9mpg for the weekend didn't help either.

Let's be honest here...Audi's definition of RS isn't like Porsche's definition.
RS in this instance means bloated uber barge with an excess of power that makes it very fast in a straight line.
And for that reason alone, many will buy it.

But nearly 2 tonnes of metal in a car as big as that...it's not going to re-define 'nimble' or 'chuckable', now is it?

It's playing the big numbers game that the big German makers are involved in nowadays.
Great, if that's your thing...but it's not for me.

The RS4 is right at the limit of what can actually be driven down a back road size wise (in my view)...I've followed ChriS3 at pace in his RS4...and it used both sides of the road and at times both verges to make speedy progress (OK...it was very spedy progress!).
An RS6 simply wouldn't have made it down...too big and too heavy. You can't defy physics or gravity.

When I was driven round Oulton Park in one by a European Saloon Car driver, it blew my socks off. I love them (the RS6, not the socks). Yes, I know that I would probably say the same thing immaterial of the car I was in at the time, he was an amazing showboater, but the RS6 really is a fantastic car. Some people like hagis, some don't.

I think it's cool wall. it says cool wall in the thread title, so I suppose that is bit of a clue.

    It's not cool. At all.
    It's too heavy.
    It's pointless.

Expensive, powerful tat does not make it cool.
