They're nice motors, but certainly not sub zero. Too big to make any practical use of the power, and although it's utterly amazing from 70 onwards in a straight line, it's not the kind of car that gives you confidence on a back road. It a very remote drive, no feeling back through the wheels or pedals. Not something I'd consider buying and not as quick as the RS4 for A to B driving.

If Audi knew that it was too big (supposedly) to make any use of the power then why make it? Why even stick the RS badge to something if as you say it's quick from 70 onwards but in a straight line. Lol...You are entitled to your opinion as we all are here, but sorry dude i totally disagree here!

The things I would consider doing to own one of these are illegal in some USA states, and considered tabboo in the rest.
All about an estate, all about it!
Looks not much different to a 'normal' avant, and would be endless hours of fun burning off so-called sports cars!

Audi aren't daft, they know they can put an RS badge on a car and some people will be suckered in blind. I wasn't convinced by it and I was happy to hand the keys back. 9mpg for the weekend didn't help either.

Let's be honest here...Audi's definition of RS isn't like Porsche's definition.
RS in this instance means bloated uber barge with an excess of power that makes it very fast in a straight line.
And for that reason alone, many will buy it.

But nearly 2 tonnes of metal in a car as big as that...it's not going to re-define 'nimble' or 'chuckable', now is it?

It's playing the big numbers game that the big German makers are involved in nowadays.
Great, if that's your thing...but it's not for me.

The RS4 is right at the limit of what can actually be driven down a back road size wise (in my view)...I've followed ChriS3 at pace in his RS4...and it used both sides of the road and at times both verges to make speedy progress (OK...it was very spedy progress!).
An RS6 simply wouldn't have made it down...too big and too heavy. You can't defy physics or gravity.

When I was driven round Oulton Park in one by a European Saloon Car driver, it blew my socks off. I love them (the RS6, not the socks). Yes, I know that I would probably say the same thing immaterial of the car I was in at the time, he was an amazing showboater, but the RS6 really is a fantastic car. Some people like hagis, some don't.

I think it's cool wall. it says cool wall in the thread title, so I suppose that is bit of a clue.

    It's not cool. At all.
    It's too heavy.
    It's pointless.

Expensive, powerful tat does not make it cool.

The poll at the top of the thread suggests otherwise Glenn.

I saw one of these beauties on the M6 toll service station last week. It was a Blue Avant. In a word. WOW! It was good as makes no difference next to an R8. I'd have the RS6 anyday! Such a mean machine and sounded gorgeous. Looked at the stats as soon as i got home and lost my jaw. I mean 580bhp in an estate!!?? standard!!?? anyone who thinks this is not cool it mad! I mean, yes it it insane. but wow!

I don't mean to be a grump but Audi, BMW and Mercedes have seemed to stop making anything radical. get in a top of the range SE A4 and then jump in to an RS4 and its exactly the same, there isn't much around these days that sets the standard models from the "RS" models so to speak. I say this because if you look inside an R8 its just an A4 Dash etc squashed into a 2 seater. These big beasts that the VAG, Mercedes and Bmw groups are banging out are pointless, a line needs to be drawn for example.

man walks into an audi dealer... wants a saloon or possibly an estate... what are the options. A4, A4 Avant, S4, S4 Avant, RS4, RS4 Avant, A6, A6 Avant, S6, S6 Avant, RS6, RS6 Avant, A8, A8 Avant bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla and thats just the audi range!!!!!

Very true but i like the interior of my a4 s-line, its the best car interior i have ever had in any car i have ever owned.

And if i could swap my 3.0 TDI V6 for an RS4 i would anyday of the week!

At least if i jumped into an RS4/RS6 i would be familiar with it straight away, just with a few more bells and whistles.
