I don't think they are cool at all...
Overweight, ill handling, under-powered...
But a great project....which is why I still have one:
Once you make them go, corner and brake properly...the fun you can have watching the faces of TT/S3 drivers as you pull away, is much fun.
My favoirite shape Golf...and the ABF is a great engine...
Still not cool though, I don't think.

Uncool.
Too heavy, too slow![]()
...as standard.
There are many people around my way who assumed they were slow and wouldn't corner....they were proved to be incorrect in their assumption!
Still not very cool though.

Agree. The Mk3 was where the GTI started to lose its way, and didn't really recover until the latest Mk5. Decent 16V engine though.Originally Posted by Oranoco

what's with the play school letters for a number plate?

Erm, way uncool!!
AFAIC this was the car that ruined the street cred for the Golf GTi!! Mk1 & 2 are legends. The mk3 was an abortion!!

Ever driven a Mk4?
Way worse...honestly.
The 16v was the pick of the range.
As quick as a VR6 but much better handling.
