They look like a right pile of sh*t to be fair. They could've taken another extra step with the styling & made it at least look good.
As for driving them, not even been in 1. The majority of my mates won't touch owt French these days.

I like 'em. Can't beat a bit of Italian styling!
03 A3 (8L) TDi quattro Sport, Aluminium Silver with leather, armrest, cruise, xenons and me at the wheel
Each to there own I guess! The V6 SE is the one to go for, leather interior, Sat Nav (ok for a basic version) but great handling!
They're just a bit bland for me. A coupe should have more exciting details than that.
2004 A3 Sportback 2.0TDI SE, RNS-E Sat Nav SW0650 TMC, 17" Star Alloys, Xenons, DIS, Rear Mats & Sunblind, Alu trim, Ebony Black pearlescent
2006 Honda Accord EX i-CTDI, Arctic Blue, Leather, Sat Nav, XCarLink
That rear spoiler makes it 'seriously uncool' otherwise, uncool!
Unmolested Ming blue S3 (so it doesn't handle or stop very well), Bose, sunroof and centre armrest but no heated seats - Gone but not forgotten although I am enjoying the new 350CLK!

It looks dated. And it's a Peugeot.
Its obviously dated. At the time i thought they were amazing, uncool now though. I'd rather own one of them over a ford probe anyday. lol
I dont think the words "Peugeot 406" and "cool" have ever been used in the same sentence before this thread was started.
not a bad car, but a million miles from cool.

Personally I think it's a great looking car but probably never going to be cool.
Unfortunately Peugeot blew the budget on the exterior leaving the interior feeling very ordinary.
I'd rather have a Corrado any day but if I couldn't then a V6 406 Coupe would be a good alternative.
I quite like the Peugeot 406 Coupe. They're especially good with the 3.0 V6.
The 406 chassis, both in sedan and coupe form will out handle an Audi B5 / B6 FWD, and certainly trouble a few quattro models too.
As for the French jibes, hmm. As a car enthusiast, it's best to be objective. A lot of folk who refer to them as "French crap" haven't even driven one.
They apparently do a Ferrari Spider 360 conversion for the 406. Does this make it any cooler?
Noggy Blue 225 TT - Forge Split 'R' DV - 18' Oettinger's - Noggy Blue Callipers
Hmm dunno about that!! A guy on the Coupe forum has done conversions before and made an excellent transformation. At the end of the day, still a coupe though (a lot of chopping and welding has to be done to them, only for the skilled I guess). but properly done look great.

twee and pretty is all peugeot will ever be, bought by people who believe the hype then the rose tinteds come of and realisationsets in. its always got electrical problems and prone to rust underneath where you cant see it. Everynut and bolt is cheap mild steal. even the engine mounting bolts where prone to fall out dropping the engine in the road. Factory recall that one. If they are that good why are the traders full of them used.
I find round here only ugly people by 206 and 307 CC's (Honestly 20grand for a supermini thats gonna cause problems) always some mutton dressed as lamb trying to look cool.
As for the 308 styling went out the window.
Still thats just my opinion Call me bitter and twisted but hey im happy.

proof you can make a good cheap big coupe... line it up with the others of the era. Would i buy one? Not in a million years, is it cool? subjective opinion i guess. but i would say its Peugeot's better offering of the 90's. And easily prettier than the 407 coupe ...
Yeah it will rattle and clunk, but it is french you know that when you buy it. Owned a 306 for 3 years our first family car, loved it, rattled and clunked but was painless to own and drive... wouldnt get one again though
Not cool.
Peugout used ALL of its cool credits on the 205 1.9 Gti.
