B8 Avant S-Line,
Lava with 19's and a few toys.
Gone: 2004 A4 1.9TDi Avant, 2003 Golf PD150 GTi, 2002 Golf PD150 GTi, 1999 A3 1.8T, 1983 MK1 Golf GX
I had one but it was a diesel. would have been faster to cut holes in floor and propel it flintstones style.
Getting going wasn't a problem, feet through the floor when it came to stopping it !!![]()

Cool car. It's not just the Mk1 GTI that was important for hot hatches; the Mk1 itself set new standards for quality and reliability in its class that everyone else is (arguably) still trying to match.
2004 A3 Sportback 2.0TDI SE, RNS-E Sat Nav SW0650 TMC, 17" Star Alloys, Xenons, DIS, Rear Mats & Sunblind, Alu trim, Ebony Black pearlescent
2006 Honda Accord EX i-CTDI, Arctic Blue, Leather, Sat Nav, XCarLink
Was it not originally and Audi 50 or something like that. So should Audi not take the credit?
Are you getting mixed up with the mk1 polo? Because the Audi 50 was rebadged in 1975 as a VW Polo and the pair were sold side by side for 3 years.
The MK1 Golf is Legendary. The original GTi (the XR3 had carbs) and the first true "Hot Hatch". My best mate had one for years and it was a ton of fun to drive. I'd love one with a 2L 16V engine for fun weekend drives![]()

They also did the early 1.6 GTI version

Only cool if a mint and standard 2 door...
Best golf by far!
Hi All
Had a Golf MK1 Campaign in Helios Blue(A981WMU) a few years back and wish i'd never sold it. Fetching silly wads now and are very rare in standard form. Too many speed junkies buying them and fitting 16v/g60 engines to them. Keep em standard and enjoy what you got.![]()
Steve
best car i ever owned

Yeah the Mk2 i had was a better car, but the Mk1 gets more looks and its even easier to work on

Mine is away for the winter now.
Its a little lower these days and with a set of old style 14 inch BBS RS
The weirdest thing about it is the smell of unfiltered exhaust fumes, the good old days I guess.
Mk1 Golf GTi. What more can you say, it really started the mainstream hot hatches. For sure you had stuff like the Lotus Sunbeam before hand but they were more specials than production line models.
Anybody who claims a Mk1 Golf isn't cool needs their heads reading
MK1 Golf Gti.
About as cool as it gets.
I always had a soft spot for them so had to buy this little one to keep me happy over the summer! They're great little cars and I'd defo buy a tin top if the opportunity to own a nice example at a good price came along.

ARRRRRHGGGGGHHH.... This brings back so many memories and regrets, i miss my 83 (A) Mars Red Mk1 Campaign like buggery, i sold it 7 years ago for £1500, 63000 miles owned from brand new by my dad...... really really regret that as it was pretty much concours..wot a dick i am, i then moved onto a Mk2 16v, got a bit bored so i sent it to TSR, 2.9 VR6 motor, big valve head and schrich cams, quaife diff the lot, then took it straight down to NS Racing and had a supercharger slinged on, wot a fookin monster 301bhp at the wheels!!!, far too much mumbo for 2wd, car cost including buying 19k to build, i got 6k for it 4 yrs ago, another fookin big regret, taking into account i bought an Escort Cosworth to replace it, and it was **** from start to finish, how overrated!!!![]()
ALL Day long I love this motor, Unlike the Nova This a is a Classic! The first of its kind! Oh how i love the Golf Mk1, Really want one but the gf wont let me spend my time and money on one!![]()
Heres my baby owned for 10 years, bought when i was 18. Dont see many of these around, only avaliable in red and black, only seen a few red ones. I plan to own this car forever, its never seen rain for over 5 years!

Here in South Africa we had a limited CITI R line that came out, 1.8 fuel injection with stronger rods, crank, cam & exhaust system. It produces 90kw and there were only 100 made, here is some pictures :
Still the best selling little car in our country!!!![]()
A3 8L 1.8T 99
DP with complete 63mm exhaust
40mm lowered, 18' RS4 Mattblack
Forge Splt-R, N75J
Port Tuned by FRC
Rather like that actually....
I had one of the 1.6 GTIs on a 'V' plate, with the deep dish steel wheels, 4 speed box, completely standard except uprated headlights. Fantastic but the brakes were bloody awful!
Ahhh memories
1999 S3, Revo remap stg1, forge RV, un-oiled k+n panel filter.....SHES BACK!!!!
Mk1 GTI.
Best.

Currently: 2004 MINI Cooper S & 2006 Mk5 Golf GTI
Ordered 28 March: 2009 Audi S3 / Ibis White / RNS-E / Sunroof / FBMFSW / Heated Seats / Blackout Grille / Week 19 build / ETA July
I had a MK1, I put a Mk3 2.0 8v lump in it, then had TSR bore it to 2.1, I kept it as an 8v for the extra torque. Not sure what the top speed was as the speedo only went up to 120mph. I had planned to put MK3 clocks (which went up to 140mph) with a polo dash but ran out of funds and had to sell it
I spent years and ££££'s on the engine, brakes, suspension and left the rust/dents and faded mars red(/orange), it was a real street sleeper.
I sold it to a guy in Southampton who I think is still racing it. Reg was A215 ANJ
Had one a few years ago & loved it.
No doubt about it, Subzero. It was the original hothatch. Had 2, a standard MK1 GTI and the Rivage. Loved them both!!!
i love the mk1 iv had mine for years but pulled it apart cuz i got abit bored 1 winter and haven't got round 2 puttin bak 2gether yet :-(
quite a few had vw then,
this was mine, fitted a 2ltr mk3 bottom end with kent cam and tsr head, she was a flyer

Sub zero for me, my cousin has one in his garage as hes project, we had loads of fun in that baby, been off the road for a few years now, he's gonna put a 2.0l 16v in it when he finds the time and funds.
8PSILVER
Some of the 5 doors were fairly cool... this is my Golf GX, which I sold last year (instantly regretted that decision!)
Pretty much mint inside and out, with only one previous owner. A pleasure to own and drive for the 4 years I had it...
Cheers!
A.
Here's my old babies(I had 4 in all) in various stages. Still the most chuckable and fun cars I have ever owned. Miss them.
Ok maybe not!!! Obviously a slight attachment problem there. I'll try something else.
Sub Zero
My first car and to this day the one I loved the most.
Tried to recreate the dream with a Lupo GTi later down the line but unfortunately not in the same league.
This was my baby, and whilst she was old and tired under the hood she had an Audi 80 sport engine, black diamond discs with Ferodo pads and goodrich hoses, a 16v Golf Mk2 master cylinder and a K&N.
Great car!
MK1's are sub zero, here is my project http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthr...98#post1693498
Its not quite finished but watch this space.
