1.9 tdi hard starting warm with smoke

I own a 1994 Audi 80 1.9 TDI. It starts fine when cold, and will also start fine after a short stop, but if I leave it for 1 to 2 hours, it has a very difficult time starting and smokes like hell when it does. It has a new cam belt, new diesel filter, all vacuum lines replaced...I have noticed recently two flashing instrument panel lights blinking when the key is put to the on position that I never noticed blinking before...one of them is the water temperature and the one right next to it...any help is appreciated.

I would check the timing is ok... Was it hard too start prior to the cambelt change ?
