'93 100 tranny troubles

I'm looking for some links or information depicting the rear of the tranny and\or the transfer case on the 5 speed V6 quattro model. I am looking to buy one and the owner claims to have the tranny removed thinking that was the problem, only to find out the tranny is fine and that the "tail shaft on the transfer assembly" is stripped out. Not too sure what that is, but even of this is a huge undergoing I want the car so all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you send me a pm with the engine code and gear box code (these should be on a sticker in the spare wheel well in the boot) then i'll see what I can get from elsawin on the gear box
