sorry..mistake.....n/side thud....
have had the car on ramps this morning and the bushes underneath look ok......
i was wondering ,does anybody think the shocker could be making the thud...
is there anything that can happen to make this noise...
thanks..

I would look at the propshaft bearing, sounds like the problem.........

Is this a suspension noise, or a
transmission noise?
If suspension, you could check the 'cup'
on top of the strut tube is tight, if transmission, check the condition of the rear diff mounts.

cheers scotty and revhead....
the thudding happens if i pull away slow or quick....
it seems to be coming from behind the n/s back passenger seat.....
transmission is smooth ..
going in to my audi garage{not main dealer wed} for them to have a look...
will let you know in a post later that day.....
any other comments gladly accepted..
cheers..

When I say transmission, I mean the whole drivetrain, it does sound like you have rear diff mount problems. The centre diff mount is only available from Audi as a complete unit. It is possible to press in a new rubber bush. This is actually a rubber bush for a series 2 car, for some reason (ker-ching??) they do not list it as a spare for the newer cars. part no. 171 199 214D

hi guys....
took the car to my audi garage and they couldnt find anything wrong{ie!!split or worn bushes}...
they suspect it could be a rear diff problem which i dont believe.....
anyway i got the car back ,jacked it in the air ,,took the n/s rear wheel off where the thudding is coming from and had another look myself,,, fiddled about with the control arm where the two bushes are and found one of the locking nuts had worn and was just spinning the nut and bolt around.....is it possible that this could be my thudding noise and that it has been overtightened by the previous owner {to try and get away without relpacing the bushes} {ie worn bushes.....do you think this could be my problem???...
cheers....

yeeehaaaa..
changed rear n/s control arm rather than replacing the bushes and the knocking thudding noise has gone...
funny when the garage suspects it is the diff and they are the so called proffessionals{numps....iwill be writing in a complaint asking for some form of refund as they wrongly diagnosed...was severly worried when they said diff}....
anyway thanks all for your advice.
