Newbie needs advice !!!

Hi peeps, first post on this here Forum /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I currently own a Fiat Coupe 20 Valve Turbo and am in the process of selling it. Its a great car but I'm looking for something a little less costly to maintain and have decided I will go for a Audi Coupe.

I've looked at quite a few and driven a couple and yes, its the car for me. Before I decide what variant to go for I'd appreciate some pointers as to what to look out for when I start to look seriously. What kind of questions should I be asking ? What costly things should I look out for etc.

I really am tempted by a 2.6 but would be more than happy with a 2.0

Can anyone give me some figures for a 2.0 and 2.6 - i.e. mpg, bhp, 0-60 insurance group.

2.0 8v = 115hp
2.0 16v = 140hp
2.6 = 150hp
2.8 = 174hp

not sure of any figures, you could probably look them up through parkers guides?

went through the same sort of process a couple of monthes ago, ended up with a '94 2.0 16v

2.0 16v is a good bet, forget the 2.0 8v theres not much slower especially coming from a fiat turbo coupe. do some research on costs. main cost is cambelt service they change waterpump and dampers. there are a lot of alternatives to main dealers, such as awesome-gti, or amd that maybe able to solve any problems you may have in the future with the car. good luck

The one I'm going to look at next week is a 2.6E, its 1994 and has covered less than 80,000 miles.

Has full history either through Main Dealer or Audi Specialist.

Cambelt and waterpump changed at 61,000 miles, new S/S exhaust and cat.

It looks from the photos I've been sent to be absolutely immaculate. The current owner only drives it in the dry and he seems to be a real Audi fanatic.

He's asking for aroung £3400 for it, does that sound reasonable ?

Hi I bought a '94 80 2.6E Quattro with FSH, 3 pervious owners and 110K on the clock for £1250 the coupes do fetch a fair whack more! One thing I have noticed with the 2.6 is parts are much more expensive than non V6 models. I have no complaints though its a great car! If you have the cash go for the 2.8 much more BHP. Audi's are more about torque than BHP so don't let low figures put you off. My 2.6 Quattro does about 30 MPG as long as I'm not having too much fun. Apart from the usual checks have a look at the metal pipe at the bottom front of the engine as it gets wet a lot and can rust. Cheap and eaasy to fix mind.
