Buying an Audi 80 cica 1991

hello all, I'm currently looking at Audi 80s to buy as a daily driver. I'm not going to be buying for a couple of months yet but am just getting an idea of what's on offer etc...

What kind of things should I be looking for? I'll be looking at 2.0 8v Sports mainly, about J-plate. Ideally I want something that's not going to need much (if any work doing) although I know my way round a socket set & am capable of doing my own maintainence work.

I believe all the shells are galvanised so rust shouldn't be present unless it's had a knock. The engines are basically the same unit as used in Golf GTIs aren't they? Are most of them Digifant or are they Motronic (or something else)?

on all audis check for leaks on the power steering pump and rack.

try to find one with a service history, this is then traceable to check for any issues/problems...

 

Front suspension wishbone bushes wear out. I tried powerflex aftermarket bushes in my old 1993 2.0E and they are much better and cheaper when Audi parts. They squeak a bit going over ramps though
