ECU goes nuts with MP3

Yea, when I install an MP3 player or just disconnect the stock Symphony unit, the ECU goes nuts and gives a fault code. I have an 04 A4 B6 Avant 1.8t Quatro, and I just really want MP3 playback. What should I do? How do I fix the ECU or flash it, so it wont go ballistic with the Symphony missing?

ECU goes nuts? Can you be a bit more specific? It'll throw a fault code because the Symph was CANBUS controlled, but that's all it'll do.
