Audio Upgrade. (I hate Audi already)

Okay, I need your help guys. I spent ages today trying to get my power wire from the battery into the cabin. I've done peaugeot before which I thought they took the p*ss as the nissan I did before that was so simple. Rubber grommet push it through and all done!
I have read the posts on this site and even met Andy Mac this week and told me how he did it on his A3. I took off the glovebox etc but behind it could not see no grommet. I was confronted by plastic casing that seems to go all the way up behind the dash on the passenger side across to the drivers side. It looks nice and neat and all that but not good for me trying to get this damn cable through. (why don't they just put a terminal or somethiung inside the car so people can just plug into and make our lives easier) I started to undo a few bolts which I think are holding it together but then thought better to check if anyone else had this problem and is thee a short cut?
I have an A3 sport 2001 as i know some models differ.

I had no joy so I took the door card off to dynamat the door and just to check it out for when I change the speakers. Weren't impressed to see them mounted on the flimsy door card.

Anyone got any suggestions for any 13cm components that sound nice mounted on something like that. £200 limit and they will be amped up. I think i will put some dynamat on the inside of the door card to see if that may help a bit.

All suggestions welcome but £200 limit on the speakers.

I put 3 power cables through, same way as Andy mentioned above, didn't need to remove glove box or anything. I found the gromet Andy is talking about very tight, and i had to just make one or two cuts in it, on the engine side, just to loosen it up a bit. But from there it is very simple, just put something like a coat hanger through it, attach wire to end and pull it through. Like i said, i had 3 cables so there is plenty of space in the gromet.

Agree with the door card, very flimy and also silly to put the speaker on it, rather then mounting them on the door itself. I put 5.25" comps, but the standard speakers looked more like 4". Anyway, was away from home, car was apart, so had to do a slight bit of 'bodging' to get the speaker on as i didn't have time to buy a proper mounting bracket. Will sort it out later. Also, i Dynamated my whole door, although i used Brown Bread (not the type your thinking of. Its like Dynamat, available from Wilco). Its much cheaper then Dynamat, and much more easier to apply. Anyway, car is so much quieter now, although i still have to do the door cards. If you want decent front speakers, try the Infinity Kappa or Perfect range. I think the Perfect range might be out of your budget though. Alternative is to order from America, like i did. About 1/3 of UK price.

hey pimp how did you bodge your speakers on your door card?
The reason I'm asking is because i was gonna just put some 13cm jl audio coaxials in that I already have that sound nice but they did not fit flush. The basket is a little too fat so there is a little gap when you tighten them up. They sounded alright but not as good as they did when fitted properly because of the air leak through the gap so I'm gonna get some components instead that should drop in with no hassle (Audi permitting) plus the tweeters will be higher. I was just wondering, cause I know you got those diamonds and you say they sound sweet but if they aren't fitted properly you could be losing out.

I had to bodge it a bit, my diamonds are competition spec, so are much deeper then normal and also weigh about 3 times as much as say, £100 components. The magnet is massive. Anyway, when i took door card off, the mould was so perfectly made for the audi speaker, that without getting a mounting bracket you couldn't put a speaker like mine in. Trust me, it is difficult. The standard size is also about 10cm, not 13cm like everyone says. So basically i had to just put the screws where i could find some plastic, becuase had i have brought the mounting bracket and the extra depth it adds, my speakers would have ended up being too deep.

Also, i think i am getting almost full potential from my speakers, but as the tweeter was massive, i couldn't fit in oem place, and i couldn't put it close to the ear as no suitable place. So i had to put it a bit lower, and not getting as much impact as i should. I might see if i can mount them somewhere else, closer to the ear.

We done my mates peugout 206 the other day, unbeleivable how easy the door speaker was compared to audi. The door card came off, and the speaker was mounted middle of the door, completly free, nothing else in the way, amazingly easy to replace.

Dean i here where you're comin from but I'm trying my hardest not to get into this car audiio lark too tuff as when I get into things I start spending like an idiot.
I just wanna hear some decent beats when I'm drivin reproduced with some element of clarity and bass.
I went down to the 'BOY RACER' shop today to see some speakers and check what fits and what don't. Not much luck, I had the adapter ring that you buy but the rubber edge of the speaker touches the edge of the adapter ring so I can't se how people are using them. I'm gonna go down to Sound Galllery tomorrow to try some more as they are a little more specialist and are usually very helpful and see what they say.

Andy Mac you said you put Alpines in, do they fit flush?

Are there any other comps that people are using that fit proper in an A3
